Soul-slider Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Just see a young billy doing a spin on the telly https://www.bbc.co.uk/music/soulbritannia/ Yet another documentary about soul not featuring the infamous Graham Barber I'll be watching that's for sure!
Guest Matt Male Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Episode one looks the most interesting. I expect episode two will be all the same old footage of the casino and voice overs about 'amphetamine fuelled alnighters, the forerunners of the rave scene etc... etc...' Isn't it about time Billy picked up some royalties?

Isn't it about time Billy picked up some royalties? I have just read the synopsis for all three episodes, and the quote about "...the dreary North" leaves me not expecting much in the way of fair representation from the point of view of the wider Soul community! Of COURSE Wigan Casino will get lots of mentions.... as will the johnny-come-lately London in-crowd. (Wigan is probably the only venue they've HEARD of after all) If the programme is (yet another) misrepresentation of the Soul facts (ie. ignoring the late Dave Godin's immense contribution etc.) we should all bombard the BBC with messages via it's website, and demand a proper response, 'cos you can bet the young BBC "researchers" have rarely, if ever been north of Watford! Pass it on!
Cheapsiderecords Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Is that infamous Graham Barber as in Graham Barber originally from Cheltenham?
Little-stevie Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I'll be watching that's for sure! I think they have to leave Graham out while he is on the register.... ..

Cheapsiderecords Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Arnie j Graham is indeed a top man, I used to go to Bishops Cleeve Academy for Young Gentlemen, sorry Cleeve Comprehensive with him and also know his young brother Andy and his sister. I meant nothing by my comment just wondered how the "infamous" tag came about. I believed he moved to the grim north many years ago and I cant remember the last time I saw him, and I am also now living in Canada.

"Infamous" in a purely lovin way - he's a mate for life (though he does owe me a tenner and a pint of full fat milk ) - he took me to my and a few young pretenders to our first soul doo and many thereafter. You might bump into him in Canada as he's skiing for two weeks somewhere near Banff - top moves on the piste as well as on the floor
Little-stevie Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 A really nice guy indeed .. I would like him to stay at my place but we don't have curtains in the spare room
