Just bought Shep Fool to fool b/w I'm sitting in on TNT. Wonderful double sider with I'm sitting in as my favorite side. Just one question. Was this actually Don Gardner who actually sung this?

I was at the half time orange club in liecester, sometime last year and the DJ,might have been Ginger, introduced the tune as "Don Gardner - fool to fool ",I dont know if it is Don tho', Don and shep did have a time on the same lable, So I have been told

All points suggest it's Don G. TNT 45 was a Tru-Glo-Town prod. I can remember someone (maybe Ginger) telling me Don himself, said that record was him on vocal.

Would be nice if this could be confirmed..

Can anyone remember the cover-up artist and title Ian Levine used at the Mecca where it was first played. If I remember right it was very colourful and imagination and certainly caught my attention when I first heard it..just as much for the "crediting", as for the song.

I ASKED MR GARDNER SOME YEARS AGO IF HE WAS SHEP ( COS IT WAS ON MY PLAYLIST AND HAD BEEN FOR SOME YEARS FOR THE "SITTING IN " SIDE HE SAID HE COULDN'T REMEMBER THE RELEASE SO I PLAYED IT TO HIM AND HE SAID " WELL I'LL BE THAT'S ME SINGING FOR SURE" . BUT YOU NEVER KNOW I SUPPOSE IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO - BUT HE SEEMED A PRETTY SWITCHED ON KINDA GUY TO ME !

some more shep info the band also included noakes purvert and most of all a name you all know with northern soul connections "singleton" was she secretly related to the shrine top man eddie singleton in the 60s hence getting shep a record deal sounds a bit barking mad to me but im sure someone will delve into this interesting theory whistling.gif:huh::D .........soulie55.....down shep(woops sorry!!!)

Martin Thomson (Northern-soul.com) tipped this as a possible biggie at the end of 2005 (for 2006) I think it was.

Instant hit with me when Martin suggested it.

I ask for it pretty much everywhere I go but only been successful once, but for the life of me can't remember where it was now!!!

Martin may have plugged it at the clubs he runs/DJs at in London. It would be interesting to know if it is/was getting much more of an airing down there?

KTF.

It was played by Martin Gavin at These Old Shoes when he guested sometime in 1999, he picked it as one of his choices for the Anniversary CD that we gave away in Jan 2000 (along with Don & Juan - Heartbreaking Truth - good taste!).

I think all the residents (Me, Jo & Martin) got a copy as soon as we could and it got played quite regularly there - fantastic tune.

Was getting masses of plays again around London a few years ago.

Always causing disagreement on which side was the "right" side.

Don't hear it much now cos it was a little bit hammered I think.

I'm Sitting In deffo the best side in my (I'm reliable informed incorrect) opinion. Kenny is wrong.

i always thought shep was james shepperd of shep & the limelights fame? the group split in 1966 so a solo release for him in say 66/67 could have been possible ....

Apart from the fact that Shep and the Limelites made their last (originallly unissued) recordings in New York in 1968, and didn't split up until 1969, not long before Shep died, it doesn't even sound remotely like him. A listen to any one of S and the L's fantastic Hull 45s will bear that out...

Just a bit of wishful thinking on your part, mate, it's definitely not the late and truly great James "Shane" Sheppard.

TONE

I'm probably a mile off the pace but it's very late and I can't be arsed reading all the replies....

Apparently it is Don Gardner and this was a bit of a revelation during his appearance at Prestatyn a couple of years ago - I remember reading the 'news' in one of the venue reviews after the event.
