As much as we would not wish to barge in on any negotiations that Ady may be holding with the new owners, It occurred to us that a campaign of letter writing to the new Bod running the 100 Club might carry some weight in his thoughts on the demise of the 6t's all-niters at the venue?

This scene is fab when it coms to rallying behind a good cause and we reckon that within a week or so, they could see literally 000's of letters on the door mat from people who have visited the 100 Club niters (even if they haven't been for years) asking them to reconsider. By the time the grapevine has spread from just this one forum, there could be a deluge of mail for them to think about.

To each of us, individually, it would involve the time to write a simple letter, and the cost of an envelope and a stamp - surely it's worth a try?

If nothing else it would be a way of everyone hanging up their differences (be they musical, personal or political) and demonstrating our shared passion of one thing - our love of Soul music and one of it's spiritual homes for the last 27 years.

Any thoughts / ideas / rotten fruit?

(Ady - if you HATE this idea I'm sure you'll let us know)

Something that occured to me the other day:

Who do you reckon, over the 100 Club's illustrious 60 year history, has appeared on stage there the most. I mean, people like George Melly must have done it at leats once a year since it started.

Personally, I think the person who has appeared on that stage the most times must be...........Step forward and take a bow.........

Neil & Dolly, Fantastic idea but i think Ady requested everyone to hold fire until he has talked with the owners again etc. i feel if any spanners are thrown in the mix prior to this then it could spoil things rather than helping, i think we all have to trust and respect Ady on this one.

Can't see the new promoter giving up his 3am finish.

Had many great nights down the 100 club , however it wasn't perfect - 1.30am start was a pain , dancefloor was like a ploughed field.

I hadn't been to the 100 club for 4 yrs or so but look forward to attending in March at the new venue.

Sometimes change (enforced or not )can work out for the best.

Why was the 1.30 start a pain Del?

Dancefloor had a few potholes, sure. But if you knew where they were, you'd be fine.

I thought the 100 Club was an excellent venue. Loved the fact it was underground and on the most well known street in the metropolis, seemed fitting for a nighter of this stature.

Will miss it badly, though as you say I'm sure the Jacks nighters will be top notch.

Cheers Mark - hold fire it is then. I must admit I missed Ady's comment about holding fire when I was reading through the posts.

It was just a half-baked idea perhaps and, as someone else said, maybe the new owners are not the right people to harangue with a letter campaign?

Whatever the outcome, I'm sure things will find their own level and the 6t's niters will continue as strongly as ever wherever they are held.

Plenty ex-pat Yorkshire people down here Stevie.

We can employ them as 'whinge consultants' for the complaints and then just translate it into English and transcribe it.

If its gonna be done then email would be better for most i think...Most of the crowd i know down there can't write anyway  ,one CSE the lot of them..Good luck with the talks..

Is there a way for a webpage or something to be set up whereby people can add thier names for an online petition? Does anyone know how to set this up? This on top of emails and pleas of course!

Emails & petitions are easy to dismiss, 1 person could easily send 100's of emails & a petition is only a list of signatures.

It takes time & effort to write a letter (plus ink, paper, an envelope & a stamp) & shows that people are serious about the issue.

Better written than typed but if like me you can't write then dictate yours to someone who can.

Daisy's gonna write mine now, we'll wait for the outcome of the meeting then hopefuly I'll bin it, but if nothing changes & someone has a few sacks full of letters to open one morning, then maybee he'll get fed up by dinner time & we might get it back.

I agree that a petition on its own probably wouldnt work but I think that one should be set up in conjunction with sending letters as I think that those who dont get around to writing a letter will easily get around to signing the petition and the numbers we could get will add weight.

Ady has been with the owner for over an hour now, that's a good sign isn't it????

Depends how many times Ady has to hit him before he agrees

The meeting went well and we should be able to do some more nights and possibly all nighters down there, but there will be a few changes, some for the worse, some for the better. Actually the few people who ignored me and wrote to the club were mainly constructive and well received so thanks for that.

We'll definitely be doing Jack's on the 10th March and I'll announce other developments after the weekend, once I've sorted a few final specifics. Sorry to be a slightly mysterious drama queen, but my agent reckons it could get me into the next Big Brother.

Stevie,

You're dead right in most respects but, as a few people already said, there's nowt can beat a hand-written letter that arrives with a stamp with the Queen's head on it!

Emails and web-based petitions are brill tools and should be used (if Ady gives the go-ahead and thinks they will be helpful) but there is something about a hand-written letter (regardless of the CSE's the author holds) that tells the reader that it is from the heart and really means something. I think it is this that we ought to be trying to convey, if it is appropriate.

No doubt Ady will keep us all abreast of things via the 6T'S website and Soul-Source and we can offer our collective support, if it's needed, at the right time and in the right way.

ATB mate,

Neil
