Soulandy Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 I have an LP from Germany I think, that came out via Ace Records maybe late 80s early 90. Only info is a one sheet insert. Not sure where i got it from but any info gratefully recieved. I also have a various artist LP, The Hurt Of The City kent records, in the same format. These are both unplayed by me has my decks went years ago. Thanks
Joesoap Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Not sure what info you are after...I had exactly the same Margie Joseph white label and insert. I would have been given it by the distributor when it came out 1988 and I was a buyer for one of the high street music retailers. I think it might have come with a repro of the artwork. I first heard 'One More Chance' off that LP. Picked up the 7" shortly afterwards (would've been a £5-£10 record back then). 1
Only Dreaming Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Hurt Of the city came out in 1988 https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Hurt-Of-The-City-Big-City-Soul-Volume-2/release/2316285 Not sure if the Margie Joseph was released? Dave 1
Blackpoolsoul Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) It came out sure, will be a test press, I think https://www.discogs.com/Margie-Joseph-In-The-Name-Of-Love/release/2198514 https://www.45worlds.com/vinyl/album/sx015 Edited April 29, 2020 by Blackpoolsoul 2
Soulandy Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Thanks for info. First wet day of lockdown i decide to sort the loft out and spent 2 hours going through my vinyl. Just curious about a few things. Thanks

Never saw Kent comp white labels when I did that job and I was responsible for buying those but I guess those may have gone elsewhere. Records were commonly promoted this way at the time. You used to be able to pick up all sorts of promo white labels with inserts like this in non-specialist second hand music shops around Soho. Just about anything on 12' aimed at club market scheduled for UK release could be got that way for pence ahead of its release. Edited April 30, 2020 by Joesoap 1
Soulandy Posted April 30, 2020 Author Posted April 30, 2020 I would of possibly got mine from a second hand shop or record fair at least 20 years ago and they are in very good condition. I know I wouldn't of paid more than a few pound each, no more than £5 at the time. Would these be worth much more now or just an oddity to a collector to have? No intention to sell anything at the moment, but as time goes on
Chalky Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Kent always to my knowledge done test presses. A mate had the early Anniversary ones on test press and I’ve seen these the before for other releases. Kent/ace promos were as far as I know the standard issue. @Ady Croasdell will tell you more. 1

That's why it says "made in germany" on your info sheet. However it's still an UK release. 1
Ady Croasdell Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 All correct suppositions and statements apart from a few of the anniversary TPs were skipped because we were late: surprise! 1
