Ady Croasdell Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Fellow Soul Sourcers, I just sent the following out to all my mailing list, it speaks for itself. It is with great sadness and a fair amount of shock that I must tell you that all future 6TS 100 Club all nighters are cancelled for the time being and that includes the forthcoming Saturday January 20th one. The reasons are mainly due to a change of promoter on Saturday nights at the club so that those functions go on until 3 am and there is not enough time for all nighters afterwards. However the 6TS Rhythm & Soul Society is nothing if not resilient and I know Randy Cozens and everyone involved in the club in its 27 year history wouldn't want us to give up our legacy to London's soul scene with this set back. I am therefore happy to announce that through the generosity of club owner Johnny Gammel we have acquired his excellent "Jack's" club at London Bridge for the next scheduled nighter Saturday 10th March from 10pm-7am. This is the place that Johnny Timlin celebrated his 40th birthday in last summer and everyone agreed that it was ideal for our music. Since then Andy Brazil and Tony Smith II have run their successful R&B "Hard As Nails" all nighters there and they will continue to be on the first Fridays of each month. We will be aiming to fill in the rest of the year as close to the 100 Club 2007 dates as possible, though avoiding Andy and Tony's weekends. The club is a short walk from London Bridge tube and mainline station which is on the Thameslink line and easily accessible from the north and south of London. In addition there should be more 6TS events at the 100 Club as some Saturday nights from 9pm-3am will probably be available to us later in the year; so we'll still be dancing to Northern Soul on that hallowed minefield of a floor. There is even an outside chance we may get a nighter licence back but we're not holding our breath. The new Jack's nighter will feature warm up DJs up to midnight when we then kick off a new era of 6TS rare soul music with Butch, Mick Smith, myself and other top DJs to be confirmed; Keith Money will be on his rig and not available until the April 14th nighter. Also due to the cancellation of the January 100 Club nighter the warm up event earlier in the evening at the Sols Arms will also be cancelled. Of course the original 6TS club started in Covent Garden in 1979 and moved all over the capital until finally settling on the 100 Club for all nighters some two years later. We're used to being itinerants from the early days and each time we have moved, the club went from strength to strength and I'm sure that will be the case again. I'll do another mail out in a week or so, with more details of location, car parking etc, and will also put the new club address and directions and DJs up on www.6ts.info and the great Soul Source rare soul discussion group. Ady

I thought those new high-tech hand dryers in the toilets were too good to be true Keep your chin up Ady, it'll all come out in the wash. No more cliches from me for now...congratulations on finding a new venue so quickly.

Mark Bicknell Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) I've not been to The 100 Club in recent years due to work, family life etc, last time i had the pleasure of DJ'ing there was about 3 years ago, i never missed an allnighter there from day one for about the first 15 years, Ady gave me one of my first Allnighter spots way back which i have to thank him for publically, the venue was like the 'holy grail' to DJ at and i was lucky enough to play a few tunes there many times over the years, this is a very sad day indeed, chin up Ady and if it helps just remember you have run the longest running Northern Soul Allnighter in the history of the scene, i hope there is a turn around on this one. Legendary.....simple as that. Regards - Mark Bicknell. Edited January 12, 2007 by Mark Bicknell
Pauldonnelly Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Ive done the 100 club a couple of times as a jock and many times as a paying punter...The latter is far more enjoyable imho. Most on here who have been in a similar situation will hopefully understand what I'm attempting to say. When the Torch closed I was depressed, when the Peterboro Wirrina closed I was distraught, when The Casino closed I was so far removed I didn't even know it was still going. Adi and the rest of the team, roll your sleeves up, stick your chests out and move on with dignity, every clould......etc. 100 club memory..." Adi, thats better than my wifes fanny" KTF
Dave Thorley Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hi Ady Sorry to hear about the loss of the 100 Club, had so many great nites there as a punter and a DJ. I sure you will carry the spirit on at the new venue. Can't make the first one as we have our venue's first night on the 10th. But will get down soon to support. 6T's is one of the main corner stones of the London soul scene, if not the UK. All the best Dave
Guest Baz Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Absolutely, positively completely GUTTED Every thing about the 100 club had me going back for more, i hope the wanker responsible for 'forcing the move' knows what a legend of a club he has disrupted and caused im sure a massive shock to the northern soul world. its not as if he would even let us have a good bye party night there on the 20th................. what a cnut. Very found memorys of this place. Onward and upwards, it wasn't just the venue its the people down them steps month in month out that made it so special. At least i can still cellebrate my 27th birthday 6T's style on the 10th of March
Rbman Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Can you get Johnny to dig some holes in the dance floor and erect some posts over it and get the sound system to to distort from time to time so we all feel at home ...... One door closes and another opens Ady......

Chalky Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Such a shame, one place I never managed to DJ at but as a punter had many a great night down there, especially during the 80's when the place really rocked as a soul club. The heat used to hit you as you hit the bottom step and then you had to dodge Ozzie who would be trying to trip you as you wiped the sweat away

One door closes and another opens Ady...... At least when Wigan shut, you could go get yourself a piece.......and the dance floor at LB as some nice slopes, its gonna`take at least two more nighters for me to run in,me dancin`feet. Guest Andy Brazil Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) However the 6TS Rhythm & Soul Society is nothing if not resilient though this news is undoubtedly a huge blow, the resillience of the 6TS Rhythm & Soul Society, is proven in this; the immediate bounce-back of a true champ! I know that, being a 100 Club fanatic, Johnny Gammel will respect & understand the requirements, (&,personally,i've always found him to be 100 per cent solid to deal with) I must say i also, feel gutted for Keith Money, as the logistics of getting time off, & getting to & from a North-Sea oil-rig to London takes incredible commitment. so, Regards to the most extreme North of Northern soul look forward to seeing you in April Keith! i'm sure everyone whose lives have been enriched will show their appreciation by making the next niter a record turn-out. A. Edited January 12, 2007 by Andy Brazil
Guest Rowly Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Fuckin hell.... having missed the last 4 or 5 months I was really looking forward to getting back down there next week. Can't believe I'll never twist my ankle in the 100club potholes again..... bummer! Still - Jacks is a top venue to have as a replacement...
Guest woolie mark Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) hi ady very sad news - especially as the niters seem to have gone from strength to strength recently wot makes the event is the people - and u aint gonna lose the people, gr8 2 hear you've worked something out with johnny nylon.........and let's hope the 100 will be available again in the future keep on keepin' on :good: u keep on doin it and we'll keep on cummin Edited January 13, 2007 by woolie mark

Guest Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 A huge blow - I'm stunned! As said above, it is the people and the music that make the 6t's events as special as they are, and there's no doubt that the Niters will continue to enjoy the support of Soulies from across the UK and beyond as they have before. Such a shame that the new owner can see fit to wipe the slate clean and just disregard 27 years of hard work, dedication, determination through the lean times and above all, the fun and enjoyment for countless thousands of people. I expect he thinks that, as a club owner, he knows best. The nob! Congrats on securing an alternative venue so quickly Ady - you will be taking the people, and with them the true spirit of the 6t's niters with you. ATB Neil Jones

Dave Moore Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Just wanted to add that I think it's the people, the artists, the DJs and the records that made the 100 Club what it was. Change of scenery it may be but I've no doubt Ady et al will ensure it's "business as usual" wherever the venue. Onwards and Upwards Mr Croasdale! Regards, Dave www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Guest Karen Heath Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Flippin', flippin', flippin' heck! The end of an era indeed-6ts at the 100 club has been around for the whole of my adult life. I started going in my teens, (if you are trying to work out how old I am, I actually started going when I was just 3 years old!) How will I cope? My car doesn't know how to get to South London. Is there a different dress code? Oh, I don't know about this at all. Three cheers for all the fab times we had there.
