Gene-r Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I absolutely love the "space-age" type sound effects on the intro of "Satisfy Me Baby" by The Sweets.
Guest in town Mikey Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The bicycle chains on 'Cool Off'?

Try the instrumental track ..West 4th Street by Bobby and Valerie Capers...has all kinds of stuff in that , cars , trams and vocal effects....underated instrumental IMO
Bazza Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The bicycle chains on 'Cool Off'? Always thought it was rubbish, now dunno why suddenley decided I love it,is it me age Bazza
Gene-r Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The bicycle chains on 'Cool Off'? Thought that was a man having a pee?
Harrogatesoul Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Remember hearing a femme group track at Hyde many many moons ago - Had seagulls at the beginning? Lovely lilting sound and never knew what it was? ATB Rich
Guest in town Mikey Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) Thought that was a man having a pee? I am led to believe (rightly or more likely someone pulling my leg) that is was Popcorns kids, a bike chain and a dustbin lid. Also how about the 'operator' on Operator operator - Johnny Baker (is it?). or the one on Please Operator. is that johnny Baker in town whats-my-name Edited January 12, 2007 by in town Mikey
Gene-r Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 How about the street-noise sound effect on the start of "Window Shoping On Girls Avenue" by the Vala-Quons?
Richard Bayley Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Breaking glass effect on intro to Roy Hamilton's "Crackin' Up..." Some very wierd sounds on 3 Degrees "Contact"
John Reed Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Does the breaking glass in Roy Hamilton's Crackin' up over you, count? I always love it when I hear that bit. John

Godzilla Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 More surf than soul but it did get spins on the Scene: The Centuries - Jack 23 on Cleopatra. And here's a bit for trivia fans - the psychedelic noises on the intro were also used on a UK EP, namely The Daleks on Gerry Anderson's Century 21 label. I guess the sound must have originated on a library sound effect record or something. Godz

Hi One of the best, in it's own way. Tony & Tyrone - Please Operator. Captured the essence of a phone call, dialling tones and all. Guest Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 (edited) CLUE - it rhymes with its description, "poopsie" I think the record that you are all trying to think of is FOOTSEE by Wigans Chosen Few....think the crowd noise was Sheffield Wed fans, and the Horn was taken from a 1936 Bentley i think ,also the backing was performed on several Kazoos....fact!!..also i hope you are not trying to diss the record as remember it was the record that kicked it all off , plus i think its well overdue a comeback you could call it an underplayed oldie!............................................. had you going there just for a second ...go on admit it Edited January 16, 2007 by jemco

The ONE and Only Soul record with the best ever sound effect just has to be "Darkest Days" by Jackie Lee on ABC records. This was the first of only two records EVER recorded that include the lead singer playing percussion riffs using their own false teeth as castanets. Just listen to the intro to "Darkest Days" and you will see what I mean. As a matter of interest, the 2nd record to feature this (almost) unique sound was "Dance Away" by Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music. Again, a quick listen to the first refrain will confirm this!! Is it me? Neil Jones

Guest Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 hi all again, the old grey matter has conjured up a couple of mid 70s big tunes with weird sound effects involved, first an earlyish wigan spin,"the zoo",the commodores i think this was played on the northern scene when first released on usa mowest then issued on uk tamla-motown i remember this being played at wigan and other venues at the time, only my opinion but this 45 starts of crap then chugs along just fine, the second one,3 degrees,"contact" i think this was played at the mecca first i also remember this being played at wigan weird spacey sounds coming out of the casinos "lo-fi" system at the time another tune for me that sort of chugged along just fine two great tunes from the mid 70s and played at most venues around that time, phew i am sound effected out ,oh no ive just smashed a glass or is it roy hamilton, cracking up over me!!!!!,soulie55
