Soulfulsolutions Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 (edited) Onto some coloured labels, no method to the madness here, just rock solid Northern, various values and tunes that will appeal to various tastes. PM any questions, to obtain sound files or reserve. Richard Paradise – Let me stay – A&T 128 M- £850 One of the harder to find modern soul biggies, which came out on LP, 12 & 7" formats. The Solid Gold LP, in itself rare enough, commands a £300-400 price tag. I read that Steve Guarnori spun this very hard to find New York 45 covered up as “Daybreak – I wanna stay”, and the longer LP version, which was covered as the “Patterson Twins” appears on playlists. Strikes me as a very small in-house production, with the writer Richard Watson, being one and the same as the arranger, producer and artist Richard Paradise, quite the jack of all trades! Frankie Lyman & His All Stars – I’m Sorry – Big Apple 100 M- £950 Everything you want from an intro, storming horn and string fanfare ushering in Frankie’s typically smooth but lilting vocal on punchy backing, all of which makes for a 45 that defines staple “Northern”. Sadly, this super talented artist died from a drugs overdose at the age of 25, but boy did he fit in a lot of ups and downs in that short time. Remained a rare 45, even more so in this high grade condition. Just a small label nick on flip side spindle hole. Edward Hamilton & Arabians – Baby don’t you weep – Mary Jane 1005 M- £550 ON HOLD Powerhouse Detroit, household Northern Soul, with that strained intro and perfectly attuned group backing selling a story of the fella consoling his girl through absence, maybe Vietnam related? I’ve lost sight of any importance, but it’s the “Mike Terry” credited label design with Nashville Matrix stamp. Very small label tear in the right hand red check, very light ring wear, otherwise a plumb copy. Jimmy Ruffin – Don’t feel sorry for me – Miracle 1 Ex £100 One of the best artists from the impressive group that made up Motown’s core ensemble. Belaires – I got a feelin’ – Palmer 5026 DJ Ex+ £350 SOLD Another corker from Palmer James amazing label, which might live in the shadows of the likes of Jimmy Mack and People’s Choice, but its classic Detroit and not an easy one to turn up. Grubbyish label but the surface is Ex+ and plays accordingly. Ward Burton – Sweet temptation – Panther 5 M- £2000 SOLD Not the one that went through eBay recently, but it is the 2nd copy I obtained from a friend who practically lived at the Mark V Studio in Greenville, South Carolina. He was in a band that recorded on Panther, very tight with writer Will Hammond, whose popping round soon, knew Moses Dillard, the Showmen and the Nomads of Mo-Groov fame. He decided to let go this superb example of a file copy that hasn’t seen the light of day let alone a needle for over 45 years. Precedes the Martha Starr version, and she was recorded at Mark V under Moses Dillard before moving to Detroit. Perfect tune and disc. Marvin Gaye – This love starved heart of mine (it’s killing me) – Tamla 42286-0228-7 M- £600 SOLD Official release of this storming dance floor filler that came as a gizzet for attendees ta conference hosted by the company. Comes with picture sleeve. Edge lift DNAP. E. Rodney Jones – Peace of mind – Tuff 421 EX £200 (Graded Ex due to couple of light handling marks, plays through M- no problems, dh) PayPal as friends or add 4% please, or I can send bank details. Postage: £2.70 – 1st Class Signed For insurance up to £50 £7.50 – Special Delivery full insurance for 45’s up to £500 £8.50 – Special Delivery full insurance for 45’s up to £1000 £9.50 – Special Delivery full insurance for 45’s up to £2500 Overseas on request Cheers, Lee Edited March 6, 2020 by Soulfulsolutions
