Guest Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 The Facebook page for retired Indianapolis Firefighters is reporting that former firefighter James E Davis, better known to this community as the lead voice of The Vanguards passed on 26th October 2019 aged 77. The Vanguards cut some mighty fine records around 1970-72 , a couple much admired on the West Coast by discerning Chicano/as. There's a fuller obituary on said website but Davis had a full life serving variously as a soldier for four years, a firefighter for thirty two years and as a Baptist minister based in Kentucky. However his place on website is down to his stint as lead singer of a Indianapolis based The Vanguards. They had some national success with “It’s Too Late for Love” and “Somebody Please.” There was a Vanguards retrospective from Now-Again released in 2019. James E. Davis R.I.P.
