Interesting, Pete. I see it's on the "I put a spell on you" 1965 US Phillips album - is this where your track comes from or is it a single?

Eclectic musician who must surely have a number of stand out soul tracks still to be appreciated, despite her "jazz" credentials.

Yes it was off the album...was going to put it on ebay this morning, played that for the first time in over 10 years, thought I might hang on to it a bit longer

So let me get this right. I've had this for, I dunno, since the mid 80's and it was what was known as midtempo Northern then (because the phrase beat ballad hadn't come into use) but now it's popcorn?? What am I missing?

i mite be wrong but basically its a bit of both northern soul popcorn but popcorn music they change the speed of the music down a bit so its a deeper vocal i think but then again ist only what i have been told by friends of popcorn music i could be wrong if anyone knows any more please tell me

Fantastic voice. She has the uncanny ability to sing even the happiest of songs, e.g. "'I'm feeling good," as though she's just about to cut her wrists.

I can't decide whether I like those 'Chinatown' castanets or not though!

Breakdown And Let It All Out came out on UK Philips 45 and is brilliant but never caught on for some reason.

To be honest somebody needs to give me a simple appraisal of what popcorn is meant to be! It all seems a bit mystifying.

Popcorn or popping corn is a type of maize which explodes from the kernel and puffs up when it is heated in oil or by dry heat. Special varieties of corn are grown to give improved popping yield. Some wild types will pop, but the cultivated strain is Zea mays subsp. mays, which is a special kind of flint corn. Popcorn was first formally developed by Native Americans thousands of years ago.[1]

Belgian music scene running parallel to the NS scene.....Where NS was driven by uptempo dance sounds, mainly soulful, and preferably by black artists...the popcorn folk preferred mid tempo sounds, They were not too bothered by the colour of the artist, or the genre as long as they could dance to it as couples.

The blur between the two scenes came when soulies started to listen to more mid tempo sounds & the Belgians began to throw a couple of faster NS type tunes into their dances.

Oh yes....some popcorn is pretty awful, and certainly not to my taste....but then again, so is some northern soul
