Funny no mention of trying to publish the photos - would have thought the ideal opportunity to plug it

Also I've asked this before but not sure I got the answer - anyone know where and when the other Wigan clips used are from i.e. those that aren't This England?

Presumably BBC film - great footage that doesn't seem to be available anywhere apart from on BBC documentaries - obviously a TV crew were there another time apart from This England, but you never hear it mentioned - must be a full version of it somewhere? Anyone remember it being filmed?

Thanks for that - any info about the filming of the Omnibus / Something Else clips?

Omnibus looks a fairly quiet night compared to 1977 footage - filmed with the lights off as well - wasn't 'letting the TV cameras in a big deal that time as well?

Wonder why the whole piece isn't available anywhere - doesn't seem to be on youtube

Was that part of the film that also included clips of a Manchester club with Bowie fans etc?

The Omnibus has never resurfaced apart from these clips, same with the Something Else, just these clips, so there still could be unseen footage in the BBC archives ?

 heres the link to watch.

You would think so - the Omnibus footage especially is fabulous - can't believe it's not more well known / available

Anyone remember Omnibus being filmed? Was it a Sat niter? Big deal at the time?

Wasn't this filmed in a Morning after everyone had left?, explains why it looked so empty.

It was filmed in the studio in Manchester  on the Wed then the rest was filmed at the casino later on.

Got me thinking whilst watching the programme last night.. with the usual footage, if somebody, somewhere in the world has any private video footage hidden away, taken on a normal night from the Casino without the "film crew , lights. camera action  hysteria. It would be absolute Gold dust. Suppose it would have surfaced by now,( not many video cameras about in those days i know)but it is a possibility, a long shot i know, but still a possibility, maybe someone who left the scene many many years ago when the Casino died who never looked back (there are some) who has an old video stuck up in the loft or down the cellar gathering cobwebs...it would be priceless

Got me thinking, I owned a cine camera at the time, bout 78 when I started going, and never took it as it would have been too much hassle .. doh .

The Omnibus clips have been on one or two documentaries over the years, "Almost Grown" and "The way of the Crowd"  both showed seperate clips, but I'm sure a new clip from omnibus was shown last night.4.48 to 4.56 in on the link Mike posted earlier in this thread.  That clip looks different than the other Omnibus clips ?  Well that suggests to me that the BBC still have the film and take odd clips from it ? who knows ? Anybody know the girl with the black bob haircut spinning ?

Was having a look last night and all BBC archive material is stored at their archive centre at Perivale, but only available to BBC staff making new content for the BBC, not to the general public. Shame, potentially some outtakes etc like with This England, but slim chance of getting to see them I guess - might email them and ask just out of interest

Also quite a few full Omnibus editions are available for viewing on the BBC archive website but not that one

Tony Palmer owns This England I believe. He put the film out on video few years ago.  There was no out takes on it though?

I just meant like with This England outtakes (which are all on youtube, etc), presumably in the BBC archives is a longer Omnibus piece from 1978 and maybe some outtakes as well, which would be very interesting to see

Many years ago, back in the days of "video", I borrowed three different tapes from the BBC archives. There was a very strict policy and along with a small payment, you had to fill in a load of paperwork and guarantee the tapes return within the specified contract term. I still have copies of both paperwork and video's (which I wasn't supposed to copy... of course) but heaven knows where they are. I no longer have a working VCR so even if I found them I'd be stuffed. If however I do find them and someone can transfer them feel free to let me know. I've also got things "Chasing Rainbows" and many, many TV documentaries both from the TV companies and which I recorded from TV at the time.

It wasn’t BBC but Granada TV.  Where are the Granada archives now?  I would also imagine Palmer has all the footage too and not sure why he didn’t use it on the video release.

Palmer said somewhere that he bought all of the footage off Granada just before the DVD release, so he has it all.

are we mixing things up here?

I thought all the Granada This England out takes are all ready available via youtube etc etc

The Omnibus programme was shown on BBC Aug 1979, it was made up of two films, the one with the Wigan clips was as per the info below

Title Disco Delight, Or What a Way to End It All (Original) 58440

Date1978-08-09 (Television)

Production country United Kingdom

Production company BBC

Synopsis

TV documentary on British discos, including Wigan Casino. (Synopsis)

bbc radio times entry here

https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbcone/london/1978-08-09

mentioned a few times over the years , here's one topic with a mention of this and others

-----------------------------------------------------------

though think maybe better start a new topic on past tv shows and leave this one to talk about the actual current show

so will split if people want to discuss further the older shows

It's in the Sarah Raine book - I'll dig it out. Tony Palmer said he rang Granada up and they sold him the footage. I think the youtube outtakes predate this? Certainly Tony Palmer didn't post them there. The point is that TP has the original footage so if there is anything unreleased he has it.

This is getting hard work, read the posts again

People were talking about the BBC Omnibus programme

Chris Turnbull mentioned the possibility of BBC out takes existing and compared that to the Itv 'This England' out takes

This talk of the availability of  out takes of 'This England' is just confusing things as they are already out and about and I'd say not needed in this topic

Best take further talk on this england to a new topic as it's all just taking this topic further downhill
