Popular Post LocedOut Posted January 30, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 30, 2020 (edited) Hi, This is my first time posting to Soul Source. I’ve enjoyed soul music for decades and have collected on & off for years. Recently I had the opportunity to buy a few boxes of 1/4” master reels from an LA producer who worked with Motown, Muscle Shoals studios, & many others. I spent that last few days going through the tapes and was happily surprised that a good amount are soul, some relatively rare & maybe some unknown. One 4 song demo really stood out to me. Unfortunately outside of the track titles the only information on the tape reads “Name of Title”. I’ve done numerous google searches but have come up with nothing. Outside of track names I only know the tape likely dates to around 1975. It may have originated in southern CA but I can not confirm this as of yet I’m hoping some of you more knowledgeable collectors might be able to recognize the song or musicians. I’ve uploaded a clip to YouTube. I’ll put a link below. I plan to add more clips soon, as all four songs are fantastic. Thank you for any information. The tape case is handwritten and reads as follows: - Name of Title - Wish There Was A Way - Where The Side Ends (songs is actually Where The Sidewalk Ends) - Black Day Light - Empty Chair Video link: https://youtu.be/BiuZi-i4pXw Edited January 30, 2020 by Lightyears Added embedded YouTube video. Thank you. 10 3 1

I don't know who the performer(s) are, but three of these tracks seem to have been written by June Jackson a.k.a. William E. "J.J." Popular Post Ady Croasdell Posted January 30, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 30, 2020 Hi Loced Out, Sebastian kindly told me about the posting of the tapes and as Head Of A&R for Ace Records, we would be very interested in licensing the recordings through June Jackson if you were amenable to that. I have been in touch with June in the past and he is amenable to this, so let me know via email if you might be interested; I don't think he has copies of his own tapes. The one you demonstarted sounds excellent. Many thanks to Seb for the detective work and I know June was an arranger and producer so these are likely to be his own recordings. I'm ady.croasdell@btinternet.com and Ace Records is www.acerecords.com Thanks Ady 4 1

Ady, Very happy to hear you are interested in the music & already in touch with Jackson. I will email you shortly. I have a few more clips of the other tracks on my phone.
