Diggin' Dave Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 I'm back with the first list of the new year, if you want to see the full list with photos and soundfiles, you can check it here: https://us7.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/share?id=2683807 Regular shipping is €10, signed for with tracking is €16 Matthew Barnett – If your love is real / My only love – Puff 1005 Rare Detroit northern double-sider of the highest order. Very clean and a steal at this price. Visual grade: M- €250 Soulful Strutters – Just let me know / Soul delight – Strut 101 Largely overlooked release by the guys that gave us ‘Let your feelings go’. This is a top notch ballad in its own right though. Very rarely seen on playlists too, maybe not too well known yet by the sweet soul aficionados? Visual grade: Strong VG, storage warp NAP €175 Peace Love & Happiness – Ain’t nothing but a love thang / Peace love & Happiness – Abab 1001 Mid-70s sweet soul beauty in stunning condition. Visual grade: M- €150 Jackie Weaver – The tingle / Teenage troubles – Chess 1797 R&B Monster from a very lucky find in my home town. Beautiful copy. Visual grade: EX €150 Jimmy Norman – I’m leaving (this old town) / If you love her (show it) – Mercury 72727 DJ Copy Gritty big room Northern in clean condition. Visual grade: EX €150 Billy and The Moonlighters – Little Indian girl / You made me cry – Crystal Ball 101 Raw R&B cut that was recorded in 1961 but only got released 16 years later. You wonder what took em so long as it’s such a monster. This is an original of course. Visual grade: EX €150 Charley Simmons – Do the sissy / Why should they pay – PJ 107 Blistering funk with former car mechanic Charles Chuck Simmons as lead singer/shouter. Visual grade: EX, slight warp NAP €125 Alder Ray – My heart is in danger / I need you, baby – Minit 32005 As far as double-siders go this one's up there with the best. A-side is a scrocher that sets any dance floor on fire, flip is a haunting ballad that really grabs you by the neck, especially after a few spins. Visual grade: M- €120 Nora Guthrie – Home before dark / Emily’s illness – Mercury 72753 DJ Copy One of the best melancholic psych records you’ll ever hear in your lifetime. The only record ever release by Woody’s daughter (and Arlo’s sister). Visual grade: EX €120 The Hesitations – Is this the way to treat a girl / Yes I’m ready – GWP 504 Mid-tempo northern magic. This one always tends to be scratchy when found ‘in the wild’ this one’s by far the cleanest I’ve ever come across. Visual grade: M- €120 Jimmy Connor – The reality of life / Let’s get married – Shelly 10604 Cali sweet soul double-sider. Soul Essence sound that’s getting increasingly sought-after lately. Visual grade: M-, slight warp NAP €100 Johnny Cobb – Hold on to you / Yes I do – Criss Cobb 101 R&B stomper and the former Lenny Johnson cover-up. Super clean copy. Visual grade: M- €100 The Niteriders – Come get these memories / That almost was me – Niterider 1001 Obscure self-released blue-eyed version of the Martha & The Vandellas cut. Nice version with more dance floor appeal. Visual grade: M- €100 Kirby Leigh – Lonely walking blues / This time – B-J 100 Killer Cali Mod R&B in beautiful condition. Only release by this artist before fading back into total oblivion. Visual grade: M- €80 Messiahs of Glory – Thank you / You’ve been so good – Sky Hero 22280 Catchy modern gospel dancer. Audible marks but plays with full fidelity. Visual grade: VG- €80 Stevadors – Southside / Misty – Savannah International 1102 Super rare Georgia stepper with a crisp open break right at the start and far out synths in the background throughout. Visual grade: M- €75 The Marlynns – The break / My heart is yours – Tower 103163 1963 Chicago mover with a nice ballad flip. One of the cleaner copies you’ll ever find. Visual grade: VG+ to EX €75 Delores Eiler – He won’t love you / Undecided – Aqua-Gem 111-3500 Such a cool record! Heavyweight sister funk. Girls answer to Vehicle by the Ides of March but really wipes the floor with the more known version. Visual grade: M- €65 James Pane – Are you ready Pt I/II – GSP 575 Funky mid-70s rarity. Things really get moving after the switch-up at 1:13 Visual grade: EX, storage warp NAP €60 Big Al (The Lady’s Pal) – Don’t bring (no early mornings) / Instrumental – Big City 1002 Overlooked Chicago stepper with a theme we can all relate to. Visual grade: EX €60 Byther Smith – Money tree / So unhappy – BeBe 101 Funky Blues dancer. Very clean copy but labels are reversed so watch out when playing this one out! Visual grade: M- €55 Richard Blandon and The Dubs – Lost in the wilderness / I’m downtown – Vicki 229 Moody funk breaks with a cool garage flip. Visual grade: M- €50 Bobbi Humphrey – Baby you don’t know / Instrumental – Uno Melodic 800 Killer disco boogie cut by the jazz flautist. Roy Ayers production. Visual grade: EX €50 Marvin Jackson – Honey, if you love me / World of make believe – Crestwood 619 Cool loner Tennessee C&W / Rockabilly. Self-released in tiny quantities back in 1957 and now almost impossible to find. Visual grade: VG €50 Arthur Ponder – Oh baby why you want to make me cry / Let’s get together for the wrong we have done – Crow 61 One of the deepest ballads out there and one of the highlights of the now dried-up Flaming Arrow / Crow find from a couple of years back. Visual grade: M- €50 Lee Moses – Time and place / I can’t take no chances – Front Page 2301 Needs no introduction I guess. My old DJ copy before minting up. Visual grade: VG to VG+ €45 Lori-Ann – Darling say no / Earthquake – Melron 5007 Sixties Philly ballad winner. Actually looks more like an EX but has a couple of pops, likely from the pressing so brought the grade down a notch. Visual grade: VG+ €45 Spellboun’ – Dance your blues Pt II / Carry on – Instant 3335 Sounds like an afterparty to the more well-known Pt I by Ivan Neville. Super killer downtempo spaced out version Visual grade: M- €40 Bettye Scott and The Del-Vetts – Good feeling / Down, down, down – Teako Essential Chicago crossover on the rarer green label. Visual grade: VG+ €30 The Royal Jesters – What love has joined together / Wisdom of a fool – Jester 102 Another great 45 by one of the best Chicano soul bands. Top side plays very well, flip is a bit more noisy. Visual grade: VG €30 J.B. Bingham – Peek-a-boo (mono / stereo) – Warner Brothers 7775 DJ Copy Super suave soul ballad. This copy was likely unplayed when I found it but has some storage marks causing a bit of crackle during first rotations. Visual grade: VG to VG+ €25
