Frankie Crocker Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Two interviews now up on YouTube. Russ being interviewed by Ralph. Really interesting, factual and well worth listening to. Russ comes across really well and finally informs the doubters of what really happened at the start and finish of the Casino years. 1

Had to skip the surf in Hawaii but made up for this shopping in Detroit. You know me, I can’t post clips so I leave it to the experts.

Richard gets all the plaudits whilst Russ has waited in the wings. About time Russ spoke out in public. He speaks modestly and truthfully, clarifying some of the twaddle you read on here. Sure, he didn’t follow the career path of Richard or Kev, but giving credit when it’s due, Russ put Wigan Casino on the map and helped many of us get to where we are today. 2 hours ago, Modularman said: Thanks for posting. 3
Frankie Crocker Posted September 1, 2019 Author Posted September 1, 2019 Part 3 now added to YouTube for our perusal. Russ talks about the links between Motown and the Casino mentioning the thousands of tracks never released. He also mentions the hundreds of records he hasn’t yet played - I would happily watch a video of him flicking through a box of these sounds. Having been to the Arcade several times and the Casino Cafe twice, I would say it’s worth going out of your way to visit. Anyway, compulsive viewing for the nostalgic Wigan goer and an honest overview that answers a few questions.

I’ve heard Russ droning in many interviews of the hundreds of records he never had time to play they he says are as good as anything played at the Casino, he has now had 40 years to let us hear them, so where are they? Sigh.....

Sigh..... I’ve never heard Russ interviewed at length until now. Sure, he’s made very brief contributions to various programmes, but not lengthy enough to match the current batch of mis-fits in government. Yes, I agree, it’s time to hear these sounds. Russ, if you’re reading this, please post some scans and a few soundbites if you can. 2

Ed bit lost with this are you saying that there is a video of a guy getting abuse ? or is the guy getting abuse on youtube? can you clear this up? Edited September 26, 2019 by Mike
Tomangoes Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Very sorry, just saw this. The interviewer goes by the name of NORTHERN SOUL TV on you tube. I don't know him. I thought it was hilarious that he thought RW was a living legend. I've met RW and he would have probably found it hard not to laugh at the title. Satire? Tongue in cheek. Anyways it looks like the interviewer ( Ralph) got attacked recently at an event by people who take offence with what he does ( makes videos mainly) and I just find it a disgrace to move from a difference of opinion to a physical attack. Search Northern Soul TV on you tube, and you will find his own video about his own attack. Ed 2
Popular Post Frankie Crocker Posted September 26, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted September 26, 2019 Ralph strikes me as being a pretty decent guy and a committed soulie like many of us, so it is alarming that someone would attack him. To do so at a soul event is also disconcerting as down the decades, violence has been virtually nonexistent at Allnighters, Alldayers, Weekenders and soul nights. There’s no welcome for trolls on the soul scene so just stay away. 4

Seen some of the comments, seen that it was a few sprayed. yet to get a definitive answer from a neutral that he was the sole target. BUT there is no place for bullies and bullying. 4
Mark S Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Personally I dislike the current trend of filming venues we had that Jud guy and now this fella . When I go out dont want to be dodging someone with a camera and have asked that they dont include me by and large they have been ok but I dont see why I have to when all I want is a night out . But violence or bullying has no place on our scene . 1

But violence or bullying has no place on our scene . This is a tricky issue Mark. Lots of us old-timers regret there is so little candid footage of the Wheel, Torch, Casino etc. On the other hand, everyone carrying a mobile phone to a match, concert, dancehall whatever, feels it necessary to video anything and everything. I don’t think Jud and Ralph are a trend - more like a tiny sample of respected figures just doing their thing. Yes, I agree the camera should be avoidable, but it strikes me, some of dancers like the publicity whilst most are just not bothered. Jud was hassled by the trolls a few years ago, so stopped posting video clips - I enjoy watching some of these, as do others judging from the viewing stats. 2
