Craig W Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Great record, and I'm playing this around LA. Fantastic record this , bought it recently at the right price. Northern soul mid / uptempo at its very best.Highly recommended.
Richard Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 (edited) think this could really end up a top tip for 2007 ripe and ready to get played, fantastic vocalist, great backing, lovely strings, UK only, didn't chart, issues harder than demos, LP that it came from didn't do very well considering who the artist is and its a top Philly dancer. I think all the ingredients are there https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=40686 Edited January 14, 2007 by richard

Sebastian Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Does anyone play this out ; Herman Griffin - Are you for Me ? -Magic Touch records I do. Absolutely superb tune. Seriously neglected, underrated and dare I say fairly unknown to most people. Sounds good played alongside tunes like Claude Baby Huey "Drifting", Tee Fletcher "Would You Do It For Me" and Jimmy Soul Clark "Tell Her". Top stuff.

Guest mel brat Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) Just wondering what tunes you've got in your box that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers. It could be an LP track that, for whatever reason, has never been given the recognition it deserves.... Sean Hampsey Found an album a few years ago by George Scott on Maple. Apart from a couple of Crossover type tunes, also included is a great stomping version of Jimmy Norman's "Family Tree" but with additional femme backing. Nobody I've played it to seems to know of it, but as I don't really frequent the Northern Scene now, I wouldn't have a clue... (Sounds like it would have gone big at The Torch anyway!) Would be great to hear it played very LOUD somewhere! P.S. I agree that the following from your list so far, are LONG overdue some action - particularly the Rumpus and C.C. Montgomery sides, which I've loved for 30 years! Also Brief Encounter are a brilliant group anyway. Rumpus - My Loves Gonna Getcha Dash (1976) Choo Choo Montgomery - I Know He's Got Another Lover – Capricorn (1977) Jackie Moore - Do Ya Got What It Takes – CBS (1979) Brief Encounter - What About Love - Capitol (1976) Edited January 24, 2007 by mel brat
Guest mel brat Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Has this ever seen much action?? Viola Wills - I've Got News For You on Supreme https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Viola_Wills...ews_For_You.ram If it hasn't it should Yes. A Blackpool Mecca spin (of course!) late 1974 early '75.
Guest mel brat Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 not really sure which boxes these clips fit in - they aren't crossover, you'd be hard pushed to dance to them and they certainly ain't deep in the traditional sense. Nate Adams "Why is it taking so long" (Atlantic) and the bonus is the northern flip "I'm gonna be good". Right back to filing 45s away........ derek I have a nice version of this song by George Scott on a Maple LP. (See my other post re. this album)
Guest mel brat Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 That would be great Richard. Curiously, there seemsto be more DEMO's out there and I've never had / seen an issue. Sean That's because it sold ZILCH in 1979, even though the follow up to "This Time Baby"! (I have a demo copy too (but that's 'cos I used to collect CBS demos!)
Guest vinylmaniac Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Ray, have you got a sound clip of the Del Vikings? I really rate 'Too Many Miles' by them on ABC and would be interested to hear this. Thanks, JoSorry Jo I havn't got one.Ta! Ray
Richard Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Yes. A Blackpool Mecca spin (of course!) late 1974 early '75. Might be overdue a spin or three again then Mel
