Sad news indeed(what an age he reached)- as well as Fats, Dave played on/wrote/produced so many great 50's New Orleans R&B sides  by the likes of Smiley Lewis,Shirley & Lee ,Bobby Mitchell, The Spiders etc

A genuine stalwart of New Orleans and Louisiana music and very influential especially in the work he did with Fats Domino and to think that influence goes back to the late 40s.  I've got 78s (and many 45s) of some of his work with the likes of Fats and Tommy Ridgley.  Bartholomew and his Orchestra are direct forerunners to the R&B and Jump Blues of the fifties that leads to soul in the 60s.  It was amazing to think he was still around.   Dave Bartholomew RIP.

Sad news indeed. When I was researching the Philharmonics (and Tony Owens) Northern Connection number(?), many of the people I spoke to and contacted by other means always raised his name, and whenever I read anything to do with N.O. music history he was right there. RIP.
