Pete Burton Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Not long now until 2007 so what was your 'soulful highlight' of 2006? Was it an event -soulnight, allnighter, weekender Getting a record you've always wanted Setting up a new venue Or something else. The best night for me was when we did a combined 50th Party Alldayer on 30th April at Bedford Athletic RFC for Winston, Anne, Barbara, Tommy and myself. An absolutely stonkin night with the best "up For It" Atmosphere I've experienced in a long time. Around 300 travelled from all over the country.............including Danny all the way from Ireland.......gave me such a buzz that i was up on it for days ! The best point of 2006 for me was also the point I once and for all realised "it isn't supposed to be serious"................so don't take it seriously." Have a laugh, socialise with some great people, enjoy collecting long wanted tunes but for f*ck sake don't let anyone spoil it by trying to tell you it's serious. It's all about the crack with geat music being a bargain into the process. Once you stop having a laugh it's only a matter of time before you stop going. Therefore, ny New Year's Resolution will be to babble even more nonesense to even more people thereby saving the scene from any downturn.
Guest Jim. Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Keb Darge's spot(s) at Leicester will stay in my memory for a good long while...and finally making it up to Middleton. Met a lot of new people and discovered that I'm enjoying the scene now more than ever. Jim
good angel Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) For me the high'light for me was Keele,on the 16th December just a great Allnighter, with good friends. Regards,Kev. Edited December 27, 2006 by good angel

Guest clanger v2 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Been so many, hard to pinpoint one single event! Agree with wAvy regards to the people. I've made so many new and 'real' friends this year Venue wise, nothing can touch Blackpool Tower. Music wise, Butch and Ginger Taylor at a small club in Leeds over Easter Bank Holiday (Wire I think?) Went up for a friends birthday and got absolutely blown away with the music that was played. All in all, a fantastic year. Really looking forward to 2007
Guest Baz Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Been a good year for do's Wilton, 100 club, lifeline, Middleton ect But been a crap year too cant wait for it to finish, good riddens to 2006
Pete S Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 But been a crap year too cant wait for it to finish, good riddens to 2006 Agree with you. We lost a lot of friends this year. I still go past Crispie's house every day and can't believe he's not sitting inside. Dee's Mum gets worse every day with alzheimers, her dads got cancer, looks like my Mums seriously ill, the f*cking dog died and the Wolves are still rubbish. But hey, at least I've got little Sam
good angel Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Djing at the 100 Club. Priceless! Roccia, Dying at the 100 Club? Are you a undead. Sorry Roccia,I must get glasses for 2007. Happy New Year,Kev.
Guest Bearsoul Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 first and foremost all the great people i've met through soul-source and all those friends who've been there when i've needed them ! Highlights Venue wise...In-Crowd Weekender getting drunk with Pat Lewis & Almeta and hearing them dish the dirt on a few Soul Icons. Belfast Weekender (met so many great people there) Dublin Sleepless Nights (if you've not been ..go !!).Basics Edinburgh, Davie Hudson & The gang, Top Venue & wonderfull people, Our good friends at The Greatstone. The Cork Leesiders !! Barbara Lewis live in Belgium (what a STAR) Finally getting to Detroit and standing in 'The Snake-pit' (Studio 1) at 'Hitsville USA' the closest i've come to a Religious experience , the old eyes were filling up thinking of all the classic music recorded there and just imagining being in the same space where my Heroes had sang, played, laughed and cried, just imagining Marvin at the piano and the Funk Brothers doing their stuff. Highlight DJ wise playing 'Carl Willingham Suite' at Middleton and all the lovely comments after. Thankyou to everyone who made the year a bit special, i'm not gonna mention the bad bits...prefer to just dwell on the highs ! CHRIS M & CARLOS V
Guest Lady Maverick Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) Hip-O made my year by reissuing the David Ruffin/Eddie Kendricks albums as well as the Supremes' 70s albums! Also...all the fabu folk here I met here! Edited December 27, 2006 by Lady Maverick
Guest Soultown andy Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) venue wise it would be establishing middleton as a popular niter, even though most people were saying that the big allniters were finished.Dj wise the sunday nite at prestatyn were myself shaun chapman and molly managed to empty the main room as we had 500 people dancing to 70s chart records in the modern room. The best spot i heard all year was a toss up between andy dysons in may and carl willingham in october absolute class.Best night out socialy was at the tower blackpool in nov the fri was as good as it gets had a great nite in great company .
