Tomangoes Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 There no attempt of soul in Stop Girl as it's a rock song..... TMOAGT at least tries harmony....ive always liked it. The 'other ' Arctic/Atlantic Ambassadors should have sung it, and I'm sure it would have been perfect! Ed

See bottom credits on Ambassadors 'B' side for vocals... 7 Dwarfs - Sharon Herr(also on Keyboards),Rick Reardon,Ronnie Keene,John Helm and Jerry Ransing and with band members Denny Groff on guitar and Charlie Evans in Percussion. Ambassadors - Bill Parmer (bass), Bobby Bitts. (drummer), Bob Weaver and Mike Sultzbach (sax), Tony Purcell (trumpet), Don Hodgen & Rick Reardon (vocals), Burton (piano), Eric Spitzer (guitar). Isnt steve saying there are 2 different groups both called 7 dwarves ? no question that ambassadors were originally called 7 dwarves but as this record being discussed is later its likely to be a different seven dwarves ? Speedlimit Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 Even the spelling of dwarfs (dwarves) is different so I also suspect they are two different groups

The photo clearly say's Dwarfs on their promotional board. Rick Reardon was in both groups. However, the photo may or may not be the 'Stop Girl' group? I guess someone needs to find Rick
Tomangoes Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Dwarf is the singular and dwarves is the plural. Might it be dwarfs is a typo? And they are the same group. A bit like there's no such group as the Twans, just a printing error for the Swans. Ed

Is it me just getting "old", or does that mean that the 7 Dwarfs (apart from Rick) were a totally different group Can you help with where info has come from please Edited May 21, 2019 by Blackpoolsoul

Okehsoul1952 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I'm getting rather grumpy at the continuation of this thread and am more than happy to see it's conclusion. As a bashful individual who generally refrains from this sort of interaction, i'd rather leave it to others to make dopey comments, regardless of how sleepy i get reading them! Well, it's time to conclude this....i'm off to see my doc, it appears a viral strain is doing the rounds and i'm becoming quite sneezy as a result!! So until the next time, ktf! 3

Md Records Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 The "7 Dwarfs" who recorded "Stop Girl" were from Norvelt, PA - About 200 miles West of Lancaster, PA where the "Ambassadors" were from - It is still feasable that one of the "Ambassadors" relocated and reformed the "7 dwarfs" with a different line up Des 1 1

It is only dwarves when used in fantasy fiction, such as Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' (https://grammarist.com/usage/dwarfs-dwarves/). However, the group (or groups?) may not have known this, and a typo could still be involved. Also, Twans is the correct name for the 'I Can't See Him Again' girl group from Florida; as referenced on here in 2012 by Roburt's excellent posts: https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/220335-wanted-info-or-any-pictures-of-the-twans/#comment-1693783 Cheers, Peter
Peter Richer Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Having said all that, it thankfully doesn't make 'Stop Girl' any worse than it already is!

The World At Night? or Twan. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.Twan is a Dutch masculine given name. It is a phonetic spelling of "Toine", short for "Antoine", the French form of Anthony/Antonius If somebody knows for sure.....fine..... Just looking for possible reasons why similar sounding names do not necessarily link them. Ed

Discovered by Blackpool Mecca DJ Ian Levine on one of his regular US trips to Miami in 1975, this became a massive sound at Wigan Casino in 1977. A typical mid 60s girlie group sound so popular at the time which sounded great in big all-nighter halls. I'm not sure of the year it was issued but would guess around 1964/65. The Twans are a mystery and it is not known if they ever released anything else. According to Jeff Lemlich (author of 'Savage Lost' a 416 page book covering the music scene in Miami in the 60s) in a comment in response to Colin Dilnot's article, The Twans were one of many Miami girl groups of the 60s and one of the singers replaced Annette Snell ('It's All Over Now' Epic) as lead singer of The Fabulettes ('The Bigger They Are The Harder They Fall' fame). You can read more about Annette Snell Written by Brad Shapiro and Steve Alaimo and issued on Henry Stone's Dade label, this is the most elusive record to find on the label. According to Jeff Lemlich this is the only Miami girl group record that he does not own and he has never been able to find it despite living in Miami all his life!" Two of the Swan 45 sides are instrumental with just the odd male interjection. Haven’t bothered listening to any others. How did we get on to the Twans? Edited May 21, 2019 by Chalky
