Stunning young gels for 20 quid ? What do they give you to stun them with for your 20 quid ?

There are two shops that I know of , but it is going back sometime since I went there .

Midtown - Nieuwendijk 104 Amsterdam , and Platenkoning - Hasselaerssteeg Amsterdam .

If they are still there , be prepared to search through what they have . Both were decent shops , but Platenkoning was a tad on the dear side .

Good tip - look for stuff on the ARTONE label : this was a Dutch based label with a perchant for releasing U.S. 45s , especially from ABC .

Hi, I used to go to a lot of record fairs in holland about 10-15 years ago and find all sorts of bargains-metros/germany £2 hesitations/dutch £2 etc etc. I also picked up a Ken williams/okeh £2 debbie dean/vip £2 and other stuff i cant remember in a record shop in the middle of amsterdam. Before i build your hopes up i went to amsterdam earlier this year and though the shop was still there anything of interest had been found years ago.I also attended the utrecht record fair in april and it was a great fair with quite a bit of quality northern on european labels but the prices were ridiculous probably more than JM would get on his auction.I think a lot of these foreign dealers think if your from the UK and collect soul records they can name there price.Anyway just thought i'd share that and i'm sure if you look in the right places you still might find something,

Graham.

The name of the shop was 'Sound of the Fifties/Sixties'. He probably had all the interesting records piled up in his basement.

But about three months ago he called it a day and probably sold everything to a couple of record dealers.

Nino,Yes i know sounds of the fifties been there quite a few times over the years and spoke to the owner a few months ago who told me he had 10,000 singles and because he was selling up was going to compile a list and would email me a copy but i never received it so your prob right he must have sold them to a dealer, shame but thats how it goes. That wasnt acctually the shop i was refering to cant remember the name of that one,

no wonder that most record dealers are asking ridiculous prices for their soul records, or records they consider to be 'northern soul'... every dealer uses JM's book as the bible, wouldn't you??? Just look at the English culture of pricing....JM guidebooks and auctions, or auctions on eBay with UK buyers paying silly money for 45's that Americans couldn't even give away in their own country...not talking about the record shops in the UK!

I guess that a specialised fair like Utrecht is still the best place for good deals on rare records, and thank G*d for the internet!! I avoid all recordshops these days, allthough some are still worthwile.

C'mon guys, don't complain about ridiculous prices at the record fairs in Holland, you own it all to yourself....most expensive dealers at the Utrecht record fair are from the UK anyway...

Hey good thread

Im working in Spain (Barcelona) at the moment and every Sunday i try and find a different market to browse for records.

So if any of our Spanish freinds are reading i wouldnt mind any tips.

Three months ago i was working in Paris and went to the big market there (biggest in Europe apparently) and came across 4 Picture cover copys of Bobby Hebb Sunny but was stupid enough to leave them there.Only to find when i came back that the other side is being played and goes for decent money

But records give you longer-lasting pleasure - and you won't catch any nasty diseases off them!

I Agree I Was Very Drunk When I Made That Post
