Had a request from a site member for an acetate thread so i thought i'd kick one off with this as it was a big sound for Poke back in the day & he's been the topic of quite a few posts on here recently.

Rules? err none really just as long as it's something a little bit different.

...sadly I only have a black and yellow Pye demo of this one, but I DO have a Sonet acetate of Y Viva Espana by Sylvia, that I had Chris Jackson's "Since There's No Doubt" etched into the other side of, at LTS, in the mid-70s...

Listen to the bass guitar on the Ty Karim track, absolutely brilliant.

p.s. did this come out on that bootleg with You Really Made It Good on the other side?

This is great Dave ,what acetate label is it on ? Best ,Eddie

Hi Eddie

This is a plain label 10" disc that I got from Colin Law about 20 years ago, he said it had come from Kent Harris in LA.

Pete, not sure if it came out on a boot but it has come out on a legal CD at some time.

Easy listening time...this is a version of the Billy Shields track isn't it? And at one point he sings "you were a girl when I needed a boy". Awful.

Ah..I once had one of those..I forget where I got it...It was a brittle, hard thing (resembled a 7" 78),also with typing on the label..had PREVIEW RECORDS printed on the label. It was ROD KEITH-LIKE THE LORD SAID. I accidentally melted it when I was totally off my face! Which was most of the time! I once previously played it for Saus who told me it was worth 3 or 4 figures..Ah well, easy come easy go....

Each to his own Pete, I've loved it from the day it turned up it the post with about 20 other studio disc's. Much better than the Billy Shields version.

Sorry Dave no offence meant, just didn't do it for me thats all. Billy Shields is supposedly a pseudonym for Tony Orlando!

Amazing. I have this on a tape from a Birmingham Locarno Alldayer C.October 1976. (I THOUGHT they said 'James Bynum', but it could easily have been BARNUM and as they were already playing "Time Passes By" by Mr. Bynum, I thought maybe I was mistaken!) Nice to know what it is at last! smile.gif

Dr Love - charles iv - capitol 10"

lil clip

Odd group, there seem to be as many unreleased things around by them, as released. Clearly someone thought they were the next big thing. As this and mine are both on Capitol discs wonder if they did a full session for them and if there is any more unreleased tracks kicking around.

re Charles IV.. just got the tape measure out and its an 8" (he said proudly rolleyes.gif )..mines got "the girl next door" on the other side......theres a slower version by Jonathan Smith which was reviewed by Soul Sam in an old Manifesto i'm told...i remember Tim A had both......i had one and Sam had the other i recall...they sound like the Dynamics to me (particularly TGND).....
