Shiptown Label

I played " Open the door to your heart " last night and it sounded great loud ! , I know it is quite A raw sound ,but people were asking about the label, and who ,s version was it and it got me curious about it,s orogins;

where is the shiptown label based and any info on group? Are the echoes the same as EJ and the Echoes ?

Shiptown is Norfolk, Va. There is a guy on here who is an expert on the label, his name escapes me at the mo', but he's the guy who released those wonderful Virginia Soul Cd's. and re-issued the Bernard Smith 45, he'll be the best guy to answer any Shiptown questions..

I think it's a Virginia label. Theres also an Art Ainsley and the Echoes track (Is this the Best Way??) from memory so they may have been the house backing band?
