I played " Open the door to your heart " last night and it sounded great loud ! , I know it is quite A raw sound ,but people were asking about the label, and who ,s version was it and it got me curious about it,s orogins;

where is the shiptown label based and any info on group? Are the echoes the same as EJ and the Echoes ?

Shiptown is Norfolk, Va. There is a guy on here who is an expert on the label, his name escapes me at the mo', but he's the guy who released those wonderful Virginia Soul Cd's. and re-issued the Bernard Smith 45, he'll be the best guy to answer any Shiptown questions..

I think it's a Virginia label. Theres also an Art Ainsley and the Echoes track (Is this the Best Way??) from memory so they may have been the house backing band?

There's 4(?) Barbara Stant releases on the label with My Mind Holds On To Yesterday being the best IMHO

Wasn't the label owned by Ida Sands, one half of the Soul Duo. Never seen a W/Demo of "Open the door to your heart". Anyone?

Tried to get Russ Vickers to do the history of the label etc when he moved to Norfolk Va a couple of years ago.....Russ....get a grip!
