Clyde Milton is on Disco Tac, isn't this diferent label to the Emanuel Lasky DT? or is it just a different label design? I know Clyde Milton involved with DT, producer etc.

The numbering system for this label is all over the place.

therei s a

100 series (disco tak is probably part of this numbering @ 101 with Emanuel being @ 100) But Clyde Milton wrote it, so you would have presumed he would have done the first version??

5000

8000

10000

40000

i can supply the numbers i've had in stock.. 100 to 108 etc no info on numbers 102, 103 they may not have had release.. so ducumenting this label may prove to be a headache.

I knew Dennis very well and still keep in touch with his wife Darlene (Love). Clyde was involved in all the versions of I´d rather leave on my feet, and the backing track. Magnificents, Emanuel Laskey, Fourth Day. He released his version on Disco Tac, before hooking up with Dennis. Dennis was also part owner of Mo-City. He died about 2 years ago, I did a small piece in Manifesto at the time.

I've got some info on 103, as it's just come in the post and I'm quite disapointed, maybe I should have been more vigilant. Its a shame it has arrived after copies on web sites have gone or I would have bought them. :fool:

103 is a 12" of the Magnificents - On My Way Up. I was assuming that 7"s and 12"s of the same record may have had a sequential numbering system. I like this record anyway and was assuming that You Turn Me On was on the other side - big mistake and if I paid money for it I would have been sick as a dog.

The lable has DT-103A on both sides, but the dead wax has DT-103A and DT-103B on each side.

Side A is the 45 RPM Version A and is 3:50 in length

Side B is the Album Version Vocal and is 6:30 in length

Here is a lable scan, seem like I should have kept with the 7" as I want both sides.

I met the label owner a few years ago, got some nice stuff from him, Four reputations on Millage, Emanual Laskey DT etc....Odell Bailey, lovely chap...mad as a madman but lovely. He took us to his basement and kept telling us this was "my demain...this is my demain man"!!

He passed away a couple of years ago...

This is the obituary I placed in Manitesto for the family just over a year ago

Dennis Tally - Detroit

Dennis Tally died earlier this year in Detroit from a heart attack. He will be best remembered, to most around the world for his D. T. record label. Which had a host of modern soul classic releases, such as Forth Day, Emanuel Laskey, The Magnificents and Executive Suite, to name but a few. But to the Detroit music scene he will forever mean so much more. He was a powerhouse of a man, always ready to help anyone with a new project. Young new artists, producers and label owners would beat a path to his door, to get his assistance, often for free. He truly believed in the essence of the Detroit music scene and would work on any project that furthered the musical cause of the city. Even at the last, he lay in hospital discussing the new projects he was working on, and what he was going to do, when he was fit again. Dennis was married to Detroit soulstress, Darlene Love who he also recorded on the D.T. label. Darlene says "He was my life, we we're inseparable". When Darlene speaks of him and his achievements, she always does so with such pride. Dennis was also a great friend to many from the UK. Always ready to help in finding those elusive records and missing artists. It is people like him that have made Detroit so much more of dynamic music city than most, and his mere passing will not diminish his enduring spirit. -Dave Thorley

There seems to be some confusion here.

DT label was owned by Dennis Tally, hense DT. Disco Tac was Clyde Miltons own label which he put his version of 'I'd rather leave on my feet' on. But he also worked with Dennis on several of the DT recording and is credited as such.

Odell Bailey was a good friend of Dennis and helped him with distribution of his product, but he did not have any ownership of the DT label.

Odell owned Millage, Single B and a couple of others. Millage is not a truely Detroit label as some of the artists were recorded in Phittsburg and the label had a Phittsburg address, Odell commuted between the two cities.

Dennis and Odell have now both passed.

I visited Odell Bailey a few years ago. We went into his basement where he kept saying "This is where i live, this is my domain"...he was a good guy, had a great chat with him. Also had a Emanual Laskey on DT and the Millage 45 off him...plus a few Cleveland Martins on Single B. Played this the other day actually and it sounded brill!

There is also a Lee Edwards album 'Shades of Love', its a 'seawind production for DT records'.

The 7" I Found Love is included on the album as is its flip Equal Love Opportunity ;which according to the front of the sleeve is a million seller.

IFL is DT 5800A

ELO is DT 5799B dated 1981.

Magnificents- On My Way Up (104a)

- You Turn Me On (104b) ............this being the 7".

Cherish-For You (107a)

-Tomorrows child (107b)

Executive Suite-Why in the world do they keep on (108b)

- I must move on (108a)

might have some more info in a bag in the top cupboard !!

The top cupboard had a good article from Blackbeat up there I think written by Steve G about Dennis Talley with pics of Fourth Day and Emanuel Laskey.

Amongst other things it mentions that Pat Brady c/up 4th Day as Larry Saunders.

also I got

WOW...I was the lead singer for Cherish, Audrey Childress. I am so sad to hear of Dennis Talley's departure and my condolences to his wife and family. It is so exciting to see this forum sustaining the test of time. It was a very fulfilling part of my life and I will add pictures at my earliest opportunity. The trio consisted of myself, Daline Hubbard and Eleanor Dorsey. I'm still at it, left Detroit and working the Dc circuit now. If anyone has a copy of For You and Tomorrows Child it would make my heart glad if you would share . Thank You.
