Our Kid
Interesting anecdotal article regarding background to the birth of a Memphis classic. Roburt
It has been well known for years that "Green Onions was recorded in no time at all as it was just gonna be a throw away B side when the studio band had no 2nd cut to put on a proposed 45. ….. HOWEVER … the fact that the MG's name was originally inspired by the Abingdon built MG sports car brand is definitely a new fact to me. . . . . . ABINGDON ASS. Mike Lofthouse
The 'someone' at Stax who owned an MG was Chips Moman, thought that was as well known as any aspect. Link to comment Social source share

Coolnotes
Ive often mused if I could have been a fly on the wall at the initial development of ANY record .. and Green Onions would come very high on that list. Raw , funky , slick .. and making musical and cultural history. You can just imagine it all being pieced together . Can't believe that MG Car's complained to em' about the name. You'd think they'd be grateful. Great post . .. Link to comment Social source share

Well Buddy Killen was doing soul missionary work up in Nashville with Joe Tex and his other black artists, so Chips should have felt at home. Mind you, he soon returned to Memphis, so Nashville can't have been to his liking. Link to comment Social source share
