Guest Shufflin Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 got the original version and was surprised to see this come out, adds in 'hand clapping' and more of a chugging beat? what do you think of these re-edits? I think Joy Lovejoy was re-done by someone else last year
Popular Post Mark S Posted January 31, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 31, 2019 The whole point for me with NS is the originality it reflects a time and a place in history and amplifies that . Re edits have no place on the scene in my humble opinion . 4
Timillustrator Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Interesting, pointless and horrible! A bit like remakes of classic films like Alfie, The Italian Job, Get Carter (and 1,000's of others) may introduce it to a new audience but the people doing it would be better off spending their time doing something original rather than trying to "improve" the past. 2
Russoul1 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 fooking hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1
The Yank Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Is this the Joy Lovejoy mentioned in the 1st post? Does anyone like this version ??

Tomangoes Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I guess if somebody actually made a really great tinkered version over the original, it might work, but I've yet to hear such an example. Obviously tunes have different versions by different singers ( When I'm gone - had a nice version by bonnie pointer for example) and or even instrumentals get words added in (Like the Bird walking vocal), but it's what it's been done just for the Northern Soul scene's benefit, it winds everybody up. It's a no from me. Ed 1
Daved Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 On the whole I agree, but I do like this version of Fantastic Johnny C, Perhaps it works better with 70s records 1
Shinehead Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Pointless to me seem more fun to the mixer than the public and records from the 60s were meant to last only about 2 and a half minutes , no point in fleshing them out . Less is more. 1

Chalky Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Tom Moulton has done some brilliant work with a lot of Philly stuff. 3

Chalky Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Listen to this and tell me they are shit, Tom did a brilliant job with them.... Northern Side of Philly Soul https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00005N855/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_xjevCbXASNR7Y
Soulfusion Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Is it not a little bit like covers; most are worse, some are good but nearly all lack the originality of the original!
Guest Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Lazy workmanship, piggy-backing on someone else`s hard work. Do something original, if you have the talent that is!
Tomangoes Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 As an example you mght need this.. What's the story? Ed
Bleep Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 i like the the joy lovejoy got both orig and re edit the times move on
Guest Shufflin Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) the new Temptations re-edit is not bad imo (label is FLIP-006), they've definitely remixed the vocals / harmonies and it's an interesting take on a classic Edited February 1, 2019 by Shufflin can't spell
