A record, that reminds me of Frank Hutson's immortal "Old Man Me" on Goodie Train. Vinyl is nice and clean, the only downer is the water damaged labels, but hey, it's in the grooves what counts! soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/littleronikeeptell.mp3 SHEILA WILKERSON: Baby Your A Jive Cat / Can You Do It * RFT, M-, 175.- Euro, sold The epitome of funky R&B and big on the Mod- and R&B scene. This is of course an original copy, it has been reissued by Jazzman records and you will struggle tio find a cleaner copy. It looks like copies sell for big bucks as the discogs entries go up to $999, in lesser condition then this unique piece. A bit of 70's feel good 70's dance here and most likely the only chance to own this as a testpress. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/wadebrowniloveeverything.mp3 MILL EVANS: When I'm Ready * TOU-SEA, promo, M-, 125.- Euro Brilliant atmospheric Chicago dancer on a New Orleans label in dream like condition. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/millevanswhenim.mp3 SAMPSON & DELILAH: You Bring The Tears * POLYDOR, promo, M-, 100.- Euro, on hold Produced for Malaco in Jackson / Mississppi, this 1973 dancer got it all. The Elevations where five students from Akron's South High School. They won a city wide talent contest, that resulted ina contract with Rubber-Town-Sound. They released one more 45 on the label and both 45s are super hard to track down. One for the die hard collectors and a record, that most likely won't pop up any time soon in this condition. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/elevationsphillydog.mp3 SKIP MAHONEY & THE CASUALS: Town Called N-Where * DC INTERNATIONAL, M-, 75.- Euro, sold Super clean copy of this indemand funky group soul dancer, that always sounds boss wehn played out. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/skipmahoneytwoncalled.mp3 WILLIE & ANTHONY: Selfish Lover / I Can't Leave Your Love Alone * BLUE CANDLE, M-, 60.- Euro Top notch funky soul dancer and championed by some big named DJs. Well, I guess most soul & funk collectors didn't even bother to give this a listen, as they expect some Hot-Rod-Rock'n'Roll with a title like this. How wrong could you be? soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/untouchablesthedragster.mp3 HAYES & DHANIELS: Spend A Perfect Day * PHONOGRAPH, VG++, 60.- Euro Chicago Modern Soul rarity with a nice mellow 2 step appeal and two great femme/male vocalists. Not easy to find, but they should have made a 12" out of this, soundquality is not the best due to the length of the song (almost 5 minutes) and it's pressed very narrow. The playing surface looks super clean, but it plays with light crackles in parts. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/hayesdhanielsspendaperfe.mp3 DELLA HUMPHREY: Don't Make The Good Girls Go Bad * ARCTIC, VG++, 50.- Euro, sold Mellow Philly soul classic, so good and soulful, that the most hackneyed sales-phrase spring to mind: every home should have one. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dellahumphreydontmake.mp3 SYL JOHNSON: Take Me Back / I Take Care Of Homework * TWINIGHT promo, wol, M-, 50.- Euro Whie label Twinight promos are ellusive and 10 times rarer then issues. The vocals are by Charles Whitehead and no matter what side you put the needle on, you get the deepest most emotional soulmusic ever made. This copy has a spot on the vinyl, that seems to be a pressing flaw, it doesn't sound, so you shouldn't be to worried about it. But you hear very light surface noise on the quite intro. Check the soundfiles, before ordering! soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspitsongstosi.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspitthataintm.mp3 DEBRA HEALY & THE MAGICTONES: Don't Do Nothing I Wouldn't Do / Can't Erase My Old Love's Face * CHRYSLER, M-, 50.- Euro, sold Refreshing early femme Detroit sounds with some nice vocal harmonies added by the Magictones. Flipside has some feelable marks and plays with pops. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/mariegladnesscopsand.mp3 EL JAY: Need Your Love Forever * ZENETTE, M-, 40.- Euro A total obscurity from Baltimore with a nice little midtempo groove and somehow strange vocals. I'm having a hard time finding words for this, well, maybe you better check the soundfile and make up your own mind... soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eljayneedyourlove.mp3 FREDDIE HUBBARD feat JEANNIE TRACY: You're Gonna Lose Me * FANTASY, M-, 40.- Euro Mindblowing good jazzy Modern Soul stepper featuring the vocals of Jeannie "Making New Friends" Tracy. Flawless copy here and simply way to good to ignore. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/freddiehubbardyouregonna.mp3 DIXON: If This Is Love * AMG, VG, wol, 40.- Euro The lead singer of the group is called Bernard L. Dixon. Previously he was member of the group Danderliers from Chicago. Bernard Dixon was co-composer and producer of this mighty fine 70's dancer. It also had a release on Communication records (better known for the rare Billy Byrd release), not sure if Communication or Ohio's AMG was first, but the AMG release seems to be way rarer. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dixonifthisislove.mp3 JIMETTE & CO.: Me And My Lady * KADER, VG++, 40.- Euro Semi know funky disco Soul from 1977. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimettemeandmylady.mp3 BLOODSTONE: Just Wanna Get The Feel Of It * MOTOWN, promo, VG+, 40.- Euro, on hold 70's dance soul never sounded better. Record has light marks and plays like a boss! soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bloodstonejustwanna.mp3 MARLENA SHAW: Woman Of The Ghetto * CADET, VG++, 40.- Euro, sold Funky jazzy midtempo groove with social conscious lyrics by one of the greatest female voices meandering between Jazz and Soul. What's not to like? soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marlenashawwomanofthe.mp3 TYRONE ST. GERMAN: In A World So Cold / Don't Cop No Attitude * MORNING DOVE, M-, 35.- Euro One of these records, that got played as a new release in the UK and ever since never really got pulled out of collections for a revival - it's time me thinks! And if not for the ultra soulful "In A World So Cold"-side, then try the more uptempo flip for a completely ignored 1977 goodie. Oakland / Cali soul from the top shelf and finding a cleaner copy than this beauty here, is impossible. Released in 1964 and 55 years later this still sounds ace. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/harrisonbrothersbeautiful.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/harrisonbrothersillbestand.mp3 JEANIE ALLEN: I Really Love You * MALA; promo, VG, 35.- Euro Here is a genre, that I don't really understand: Popcorn. Isn't it just slowed down Rock'n'Roll, or am I comepletely wrong? Anyway, this one seems to be quite indemand, so here is your chance to grab this without breaking the bank. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jeannieallenireally.mp3 WILLIE HARPER: A Certain Girl / I Don't Need You Anymore * TOU-SEA, promo, M-, 35.- Euro, sold Stone mint promo of this mindblowing New Orleans double header and Nola vinyl after Kathrina in great condition is so hard to find. This was one of them and it's simply a great and overlooked 70's dancer. Tricky to find nowadays and way better then the (once again laughable) price tag might suggest. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/circleofirehaveit.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/circleofiretrueblue.mp3 TONY OWENS: (When You're Wrong) You Got To Pay The Price * LISTENING POST, M-, 25.- Euro, sold Nice clean copy of this indemand New Orleans crossover dancer from 1973. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tonyowenspaythe.mp3 AARON NEVILLE: All These Things / She's On My Mind * BELL, promo, M-, 25.- Euro Nola magic on both sides by the big guy Aaaron Neville, blessed with a voice beyond compare. The Willie Hutch production for The Reason Why spring to mind or Curtis Mayfield's work with New World. Sam Dees' one off for the label didn't sell at all and the label dropped him after only one release. They should have sticked to him as both sides are wonderful examples of deep and tortured real soul from the man. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/samdeessayyeah.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/samdeesmyworld.mp3 RUDY MOCKABEE: Think About It / Piece Of My Heart * ATCO promo, M-, 25.- Euro, sold Deep as a coalmine Memphis double sider with the gritty growling voice of Rudy Mockabee, better known for his only other record, the uptempo "Sweet Thing" on the same label. This one is probabyl rarer then the indemand "Sweet Thing" and I rate this way higher. But deep soul never sells on my list and I should safe my praising words for some uptempo records. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rudymockabeethinkaboutit.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rudymockabeepieceofmy.mp3 T.S.U. Her distinctive voice was rather schooled by jazz greats as Sarah Vaughn and this is never wrong, when it comes to the attempt to crossover to the soul market. Great record and cheap as chips! soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/candistatonalittletaste.mp3 DEEP VELVET: Hanna Mae * AWARE, M-, 10.- Small budget, but quality crossover dancer on Atlanta's Aware label. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/deepvelvethannamae.mp3 THE CLASSIC SULLIVANS: A Ring Don't Mean A Thing Without Love * KWANZA, promo, VG+, 10.- Euro 1973 crossover soul goodie in an impression style. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/classicsullivansaring.mp3 PICTURE SLEEVE 45s FROM ACROSS THE WORLD OTIS REDDING: Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul VOLT SD 412, 6-track Jukebox EP, Vinyl strong VG+ / Sleeve: VG++, 60.- Euro Tracklist: -Respect -Down In The Valley -I've Been Loving You To Long -My Girl -Satisfaction -Shake Now here is something you don't see everyday. Francine Barker is Peaches from Peaches & Herb fame and this is her failed attempt to go solo. Two great Van McCoy penned sides, that reminds me of Dionne Warwick. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/francinebarkerdontyouknow.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/francinebarkermrdj.mp3 GIL SCOTT HERON & BRIAN JACKSON: The Bottle / Back Home * STRATA EAST, made in france, Vinyl: VG++ / Sleeve: VG+, 25.- Euro, sold A dancefloor classic since it was released in 1975. Not just good, this is f*cking briliant and pretty much essential. The french picture sleeve issue has the studio recording of "the bottle" on it, not like the US Arista 45 a weaker live version. This copy is shiny and clean with one little surface mark, that does not affect the perfect play. My advise: Go for it! soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/gilscottheronthebott.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/gilscottheronbackhome.mp3 D'STARLIGHTS: It's Soul Man EMI ECHK 598, made in Singapore, M- / M- condition, 100.- Euro Tracklist: A Man Without LOve -Hip Hug Her -El Pussy Cat -Louie Louie Now here is something you most likely have never seen before. An incredible rare 4-track-EP only released in Singapore. Probably a band, who played to bored tourists in some hotel bar, but they pick out a great funky version of "Hip Hug Her", that really hits the spot and the "Louie Louie" cover ain't to shabby either. Rare as henth teeth and obscure as it gets. soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dstarlightshiphug.mp3 soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dstarlightslouie.mp3 PLEASE: Let 'Em Do What They Wanna * TELEFUNKEN, made in Germany, M- / M-, 15.- Euro Please was a group of Filipino Soul/Funk musicians, who ended up recording in Europe. If they don't dance to this, they dance to nothing. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ottoderojas.mp3 ENRIQUE LYNCH Y SU CONJUNTO: Guajira Pop-Una Chica Enamorada *SONO RADIO, VG+, 50.- Euro Superb and rare Peru only Latin dancefloor smasher with wicked breaks and an unusual arrangement. Nothing for the soulboys on the list, but I believe someone out there got a soft spot for stuff like this. soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/enriquelynchguajirapop.mp3 MARIO ALLISON Y SUS ESTRELLAS: Caliente / San Juan * DINSA; VG, 35.- Euro Rare Boogaloo 45, that got just released in Argentina and Peru. This is the issue copy from Peru and if you like your stuff with handclaps, a strong beat and some latin vibes, this is for you. Flipside is kind of easy latin, but nice in it's own way... check the sound! soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marioallisoncaliente.mp3 soundile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marioallisonsanjuan.mp3 Edited January 28, 2019 by docfish
