COOKIN' BAG: This Is Me / The Song I Sing * SOLID GOLD, M-, 250.- Euro
Stunning great local Seattle funky soul double sider with great vocals, a horn section of the highest order and a super tight backing band.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/cookinbagthisisme.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/cookinbagthesongi.mp3

LITTLE RON JOHNSON: I Keep Telling You * HARD TIMES, VG++, water damaged label, 250.- Euro
Super soulful floater with a superb vibrato-guitar setting the tone. A record, that reminds me of Frank Hutson's immortal "Old Man Me" on Goodie Train. Vinyl is nice and clean, the only downer is the water damaged labels, but hey, it's in the grooves what counts!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/littleronikeeptell.mp3

SHEILA WILKERSON: Baby Your A Jive Cat / Can You Do It * RFT, M-, 175.- Euro, sold
The epitome of funky R&B and big on the Mod- and R&B scene. This is of course an original copy, it has been reissued by Jazzman records and you will struggle tio find a cleaner copy. Flipside offers a fine funky, latin tingled dancer, that never really got the attention it deserves.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sheilawilkersonjive.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sheilawilkersoncanyoudo.mp3

WADE BROWN: I Love Everything About You * TESTPRESS, M-, 150.- Euro, sold
Scarce testpress of a rare Wade Brown 70 soul disc, that got released on Starheart records. It looks like copies sell for big bucks as the discogs entries go up to $999, in lesser condition then this unique piece. A bit of 70's feel good 70's dance here and most likely the only chance to own this as a testpress.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/wadebrowniloveeverything.mp3

MILL EVANS: When I'm Ready * TOU-SEA, promo, M-, 125.- Euro
Brilliant atmospheric Chicago dancer on a New Orleans label in dream like condition.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/millevanswhenim.mp3

SAMPSON & DELILAH: You Bring The Tears * POLYDOR, promo, M-, 100.- Euro, on hold
Produced for Malaco in Jackson / Mississppi, this 1973 dancer got it all. Superb vocals, a driving beat and the rarity; it only ever came out as a promotional record and no issue ever seen the day of light. Great record with a bright future, if only DJs would realize.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sampsonanddelilahyoubring.mp3

DANNY WHITE: Natural Soul Brother * SSS INTERNATIONAL, promo, M-, 75.- Euro, sold
Hard hitting Nola funky soul, that never fails to get the dancers up.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dannywhitenatura.mp3

ELEVATIONS: Philly Dog * RUBBER-TOWN-SOUND, M-, 75.- Euro, sold
A hard knock 1968 mover out of Akron / Ohio and totally under the radar. The Elevations where five students from Akron's South High School. They won a city wide talent contest, that resulted ina contract with Rubber-Town-Sound. They released one more 45 on the label and both 45s are super hard to track down. One for the die hard collectors and a record, that most likely won't pop up any time soon in this condition.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/elevationsphillydog.mp3

SKIP MAHONEY & THE CASUALS: Town Called N-Where * DC INTERNATIONAL, M-, 75.- Euro, sold
Super clean copy of this indemand funky group soul dancer, that always sounds boss wehn played out.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/skipmahoneytwoncalled.mp3

WILLIE & ANTHONY: Selfish Lover / I Can't Leave Your Love Alone * BLUE CANDLE, M-, 60.- Euro
Top notch funky soul dancer and championed by some big named DJs. One that never fails to get the dancers up, for the soulful content the midtempo flipside probably offers a bit more, but most definitely two great sides to choose from.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieandanthonyself.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieandanthonyijustcantleav.mp3

DANNY HUNT: What's Happening To Our Love Affair * DYNAMITE, VG++, 60.- Euro, sold
Mecca classic, that got reactivated recently and fills dancefloors across Europe. Such a great uptempo sound!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dannyhuntwhatshappening.mp3

TONY CLARKE: Ghetto man / Love Power * CHICKORY, M-, 60.- Euro, sold
Two hard hitting slabs of Soul with the right amount of Funk mixed in.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tonyclarkelovepower.mp3

MERLE SPEARS & THE TREATS: I Want To Know * ATLANTIC, VG+, drill hole in lbl, 60.- Euro
Uptempo R&B tingled dancefloor bomb out of Louisiana. If they don't dance to this, they dance to nothing!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/merlespearsiwanttoknow.mp3

MARION ESTER: Victim Of Circumstance * MURCO, M-, 60.- Euro
One of the harder titles on the great Murco label out of Shreveport / Louisiana and what a banger this is. Uncompromising uptempo 60's dance soul of the highest order!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marionestervictimof.mp3

JOAN MOODY: Anything Worth Having (Is Well Worth Waiting For ) / Big Time Operator * SYLVIA, M-, "x" on label flipside, 50.- Euro, sold
Two great 60's dance sides to chose from Al Sears Sylvia label out of New York.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/joanmoodyanything.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/joanmoodybigtime.mp3

THE UNTOUCHABLES WITH MARK ONE BAND: Dragster Boy * FAAP, M-, 60.- Euro, "Sample" stamp on label, sold
Lo-Fi deep funk out of Richmond Virginia, that seems to be flying under the radar. Well, I guess most soul & funk collectors didn't even bother to give this a listen, as they expect some Hot-Rod-Rock'n'Roll with a title like this. How wrong could you be?
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/untouchablesthedragster.mp3

HAYES & DHANIELS: Spend A Perfect Day * PHONOGRAPH, VG++, 60.- Euro
Chicago Modern Soul rarity with a nice mellow 2 step appeal and two great femme/male vocalists. Not easy to find, but they should have made a 12" out of this, soundquality is not the best due to the length of the song (almost 5 minutes) and it's pressed very narrow. The playing surface looks super clean, but it plays with light crackles in parts.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/hayesdhanielsspendaperfe.mp3

DELLA HUMPHREY: Don't Make The Good Girls Go Bad * ARCTIC, VG++, 50.- Euro, sold
Mellow Philly soul classic, so good and soulful, that the most hackneyed sales-phrase spring to mind: every home should have one.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dellahumphreydontmake.mp3

SYL JOHNSON: Take Me Back / I Take Care Of Homework * TWINIGHT promo, wol, M-, 50.- Euro
Whie label Twinight promos are ellusive and 10 times rarer then issues. This is clean as it gets, musically outstanding as to be expected when Syl's name is on the label and the sticker on the label gives a bit of history lesson as Bedno-Wright Associates where an independent promotion agency founded in 1968 to push local Chicago talents.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/syljohnsontakemeback.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/syljohnsonitakecare.mp3

SYL JOHNSON: Don't Give It Away / Going To The Shack * TWINIGHT, promo, wol, M-, 30.- Euro
Way rarer promo copy of this essential funky soul double header with "Going To The Shack" being a personal favourtite. Way harder to find then most of Syl's other releases on the label and musically totally from the top shelf.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/syljohnsondontgiveit.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/syljohnsongoingto.mp3

RAW SPITT: That Ain't My Wife (That I See) / Songs To Sing * UNITED ARTISTS, promo, VG++, 50.- Euro
Legendary deep soul double header produced by Jerry Williams aka Swamp Dogg. The vocals are by Charles Whitehead and no matter what side you put the needle on, you get the deepest most emotional soulmusic ever made. This copy has a spot on the vinyl, that seems to be a pressing flaw, it doesn't sound, so you shouldn't be to worried about it. But you hear very light surface noise on the quite intro. Check the soundfiles, before ordering!
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspitsongstosi.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspitthataintm.mp3

DEBRA HEALY & THE MAGICTONES: Don't Do Nothing I Wouldn't Do / Can't Erase My Old Love's Face * CHRYSLER, M-, 50.- Euro, sold
Refreshing early femme Detroit sounds with some nice vocal harmonies added by the Magictones. This is the Chicago press, in Detroit it came out on Wheelsville. Both are equally hard to come by and this copy is as mint as you like it!
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/debrahealydontdo.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/debrahealycanterase.mp3

JAY BALDWIN: So Glad I Met You / Son Of Mine * RONINA, M-, 50.- Euro
Widely unknown sweet 70's soul with a great funky flip.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jaybladwinsogladimet.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jaybaldwinsonofmine.mp3

TYRONE BARKLEY: Man Of Value / Some Kind Of Wonderful * MIDSONG INT., M-, 50.- Euro

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tyronebarkleysomekind.mp3

MARIE GLADNESS: Cops And Robbers * BRAND-X, VG/VG-, 40.- Euro
Nice R&B tingled popcorn soul on the rarer first label before Abner took over for national distribution. Flipside has some feelable marks and plays with pops.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/mariegladnesscopsand.mp3

EL JAY: Need Your Love Forever * ZENETTE, M-, 40.- Euro
A total obscurity from Baltimore with a nice little midtempo groove and somehow strange vocals. I'm having a hard time finding words for this, well, maybe you better check the soundfile and make up your own mind...
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eljayneedyourlove.mp3

FREDDIE HUBBARD feat JEANNIE TRACY: You're Gonna Lose Me * FANTASY, M-, 40.- Euro
Mindblowing good jazzy Modern Soul stepper featuring the vocals of Jeannie "Making New Friends" Tracy. Flawless copy here and simply way to good to ignore.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/freddiehubbardyouregonna.mp3

DIXON: If This Is Love * AMG, VG, wol, 40.- Euro
The lead singer of the group is called Bernard L. Dixon. Previously he was member of the group Danderliers from Chicago. Bernard Dixon was co-composer and producer of this mighty fine 70's dancer. It also had a release on Communication records (better known for the rare Billy Byrd release), not sure if Communication or Ohio's AMG was first, but the AMG release seems to be way rarer.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/dixonifthisislove.mp3

JIMETTE & CO.: Me And My Lady * KADER, VG++, 40.- Euro
Semi know funky disco Soul from 1977.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimettemeandmylady.mp3

BLOODSTONE: Just Wanna Get The Feel Of It * MOTOWN, promo, VG+, 40.- Euro, on hold
70's dance soul never sounded better. A mindblowing dancer with slick production and pretty much a blueprint for the term Modern Soul. Record has light marks and plays like a boss!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bloodstonejustwanna.mp3

MARLENA SHAW: Woman Of The Ghetto * CADET, VG++, 40.- Euro, sold
Funky jazzy midtempo groove with social conscious lyrics by one of the greatest female voices meandering between Jazz and Soul. What's not to like?
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marlenashawwomanofthe.mp3

TYRONE ST. GERMAN: In A World So Cold / Don't Cop No Attitude * MORNING DOVE, M-, 35.- Euro
One of these records, that got played as a new release in the UK and ever since never really got pulled out of collections for a revival - it's time me thinks! And if not for the ultra soulful "In A World So Cold"-side, then try the more uptempo flip for a completely ignored 1977 goodie. Oakland / Cali soul from the top shelf and finding a cleaner copy than this beauty here, is impossible. Stone mint and soulful to the max!
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tyronestgermaninaworldso.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tyronestgermandontcopno.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/littlecarlilllove.mp3

THE HARRISON BROS.: Beautiful Lies / I'll Be Standing By * ABC-PARAMOUNT, M-, 30.- Euro, sold
Maybe the most soulful record on the list, two male brothers singing their herts out over a catchy little beat. Released in 1964 and 55 years later this still sounds ace.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/harrisonbrothersbeautiful.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/harrisonbrothersillbestand.mp3

JEANIE ALLEN: I Really Love You * MALA; promo, VG, 35.- Euro
Here is a genre, that I don't really understand: Popcorn. Isn't it just slowed down Rock'n'Roll, or am I comepletely wrong? Anyway, this one seems to be quite indemand, so here is your chance to grab this without breaking the bank.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jeannieallenireally.mp3

WILLIE HARPER: A Certain Girl / I Don't Need You Anymore * TOU-SEA, promo, M-, 35.- Euro, sold
Stone mint promo of this mindblowing New Orleans double header and Nola vinyl after Kathrina in great condition is so hard to find. Topside is written by Naomi Neville and has been recorded by Ernie K-Doe as well, but Willie Haper's cut has the guts. Flip it over for a mighty fine ballad.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieharperidontneed.mp3

DARRELL BANKS: Beautiful Feeling / No One Blinder * VOLT, M-, 30.- Euro
One of the finest Volt 4000 series double siders and a flawless Detroit production by the one and only Don Davis. While Darrell Banks' other two Volt releases gets high praises from collectors and DJs, this one seems to be off the radar and it's obvious, when clicking the soundfiles, that this diamond of a record and needs some more exposure.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/royhightowerfalse.mp3

OTIS LEAVILL: Jane Girl / Don't Let Me Down * LIMELIGHT, VG+, 30.- Euro
Seldom seen for sale and two mindboggling good sides to chose from. Top sides offers flawless raw 60's uptempo soul while the flipside has a more melodic approach and should work fine in the right venue with a brave DJ behind it. Comes with it's original company sleeve.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/otisleavilldontletme.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieteeloveofa.mp3

CIRCLE O'FIRE: Have It Your Way / True Blue * STAX, M-, 25.- Euro, sold
When Fantasy records baught Stax record in 1977 for laughable 1,3 Million dollars (just imagine how many essential recordings got released on Stax), they tried to resurrect the label with a handful releases. This was one of them and it's simply a great and overlooked 70's dancer. Tricky to find nowadays and way better then the (once again laughable) price tag might suggest.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/circleofirehaveit.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/circleofiretrueblue.mp3

DIAMOND JOE: Hurry Back To Me / Don't Set Me Back * SANSU, promo, M-, 25.- Euro
One of the finest vocalists coming from the crescent city going by the name of Diamond Joe. The guy is a mystery and little is known except his legacy of seven great 45s with this two Allen Touissant productions are no exception. One side superb uptempo and the flipside has an amazing stop-and-go-arrangement with belting vocals by the man. So much better then most of the four figure rarities.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/diamondjoehurryback.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/diamondjoedontsetme.mp3

SAM DEES: Say Yeah / My World * POLYDOR, VG++, 25.- Euro
Resulting from the attempt of Polydor records to get a foot in the soul market in the 70's, the company licensed some remarkable work from independent producers and artists during the decade. The Willie Hutch production for The Reason Why spring to mind or Curtis Mayfield's work with New World. Sam Dees' one off for the label didn't sell at all and the label dropped him after only one release. They should have sticked to him as both sides are wonderful examples of deep and tortured real soul from the man.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/samdeessayyeah.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/samdeesmyworld.mp3

RUDY MOCKABEE: Think About It / Piece Of My Heart * ATCO promo, M-, 25.- Euro, sold
Deep as a coalmine Memphis double sider with the gritty growling voice of Rudy Mockabee, better known for his only other record, the uptempo "Sweet Thing" on the same label. This one is probabyl rarer then the indemand "Sweet Thing" and I rate this way higher. But deep soul never sells on my list and I should safe my praising words for some uptempo records.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rudymockabeethinkaboutit.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rudymockabeepieceofmy.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tsutoronadoesgettingtheco.mp3

MAJOR LANCE: Too Hot To Hold / Dark And Lonely * OKEH, M-, wol, 25.- Euro

SYLVIA ROBBINS: Our Love / I Can't Tell You * SUE, VG+, 20.- Euro
An uptempo blast from the past backed up by nice swinging midtempo groover. Two sides for the price of one and surprisingly cheap for the sheer quality pressed on wax here.
soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sylviarobbinsourlove.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sylviarobbinsicantell.mp3

JEAN DuSHON: It Won't Stop Hurtin' Me * LENOX, M-, 20.- Euro
Jean DuShon's career took off after she recorded the utterly brilliant "It Won't Stop Hurtin' Me" and she went on to Chicago and signed a contarct with Chess records. Her distinctive voice was rather schooled by jazz greats as Sarah Vaughn and this is never wrong, when it comes to the attempt to crossover to the soul market. Anyway, one of the finest examples of big city soul and astonishing cheap for the sheer quality of the performance.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jeandushonitwontstop.mp3

Shiny clean copy of this amazing Mod Jazz groover.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lonelldantzlerboghana.mp3

CANDI STATON: A Little Taste Of Love * WARNER BROTHERS, M-, 12.- Euro, sold
It's a kistery to me, that a record of this quality never really took off. Funky soul of the highest order with Candi wailing on funky dancebeat layed down by the studio cats in Muscle Shoals. Songwriting credits go to George Jackson and the guy delivered the good stuff for all of his career. Great record and cheap as chips!
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/candistatonalittletaste.mp3

Small budget, but quality crossover dancer on Atlanta's Aware label.

Now here is something you don't see everyday. A jukebox 6-track EP for Otis Redding's essential "Otis Blue" LP. I've recorded only one track to give you an idea of the really nice soundquality.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/otisdowninthevalley.mp3

FRANCINE BARKER: Don't You Know Love When You See It / Mr. D.J. * COLUMBIA M- / M-, 25.- Euro
Rarely seen US picture sleeve issue in beautiful condition. Francine Barker is Peaches from Peaches & Herb fame and this is her failed attempt to go solo. Two great Van McCoy penned sides, that reminds me of Dionne Warwick.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/francinebarkermrdj.mp3

GIL SCOTT HERON & BRIAN JACKSON: The Bottle / Back Home * STRATA EAST, made in france, Vinyl: VG++ / Sleeve: VG+, 25.- Euro, sold
A dancefloor classic since it was released in 1975. Not just good, this is f*cking briliant and pretty much essential. The french picture sleeve issue has the studio recording of "the bottle" on it, not like the US Arista 45 a weaker live version. This copy is shiny and clean with one little surface mark, that does not affect the perfect play. My advise: Go for it!

D'STARLIGHTS: It's Soul Man
EMI ECHK 598, made in Singapore, M- / M- condition, 100.- Euro

Tracklist:
A Man Without LOve
-Hip Hug Her
-El Pussy Cat
-Louie Louie

Now here is something you most likely have never seen before. An incredible rare 4-track-EP only released in Singapore. Probably a band, who played to bored tourists in some hotel bar, but they pick out a great funky version of "Hip Hug Her", that really hits the spot and the "Louie Louie" cover ain't to shabby either. Rare as henth teeth and obscure as it gets.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/supremesbabylove.mp3
soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/supremesaskanygirl.mp3

THE METERS: Fire On The Bayou / Talkin' 'Bout New Orleans * REPRISE, made in Germany, M- / M-

LATIN 45s

OTTO DE ROJAS Y LOS ULTRAS 76: Al Ritmo Del Bump-Bump * RCA, Made in Peru, VG to VG+, 40.- Euro
Mindblwoing funky latin soul bomp only released in Peru and it has this certain, dancefloorpleasing "tighten up"-feel, allthough it's quite obvious a Young Holt Unlimited cover. If they don't dance to this, they dance to nothing.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ottoderojas.mp3

ENRIQUE LYNCH Y SU CONJUNTO: Guajira Pop-Una Chica Enamorada *SONO RADIO, VG+, 50.- Euro
Superb and rare Peru only Latin dancefloor smasher with wicked breaks and an unusual arrangement. Nothing for the soulboys on the list, but I believe someone out there got a soft spot for stuff like this.
soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/enriquelynchguajirapop.mp3

MARIO ALLISON Y SUS ESTRELLAS: Caliente / San Juan * DINSA; VG, 35.- Euro
Rare Boogaloo 45, that got just released in Argentina and Peru. This is the issue copy from Peru and if you like your stuff with handclaps, a strong beat and some latin vibes, this is for you. Flipside is kind of easy latin, but nice in it's own way... check the sound!
