The Tempest Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Just been listening to a live recording of the Casino from 75 - one of the tracks is a kind of white rock style group record with the male vocalist singing the chorus of : Run , run , run my baby throughout Its inaudible when the vocalist / group / title is announced Apart from this recording - I have only ever heard this once in over thirty years played out oddly enough by Guy Hennigan of all people ! And he didn't say who it was either ! Any ideas guys ?
Winsford Soul Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Any chance of the clip ? As a add on... Elusive- Babe Ruth. They're a rock group Steve
Timillustrator Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 A long shot but it's not this is it? (originally by the Who).
Timillustrator Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) The Who's version is way heavier (probably one of the heaviest guitar solos ever recorded at that time - 1966), here's a faster live radio version. Edited January 17, 2019 by Timillustrator
The Tempest Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 Nope none of the above so far .....
Davenpete Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Definitely Dalton James and Sutton - used to have it - someone once told me the James is as in Barclay James Harvest (probably BS) - certainly has 'something' but it's certainly not 'soul' - used to have the Wigan tape with it on as well - a lot of dodgy stuff on that one. Definitely because there was no "James" in BJH; apparently it was the first name of a previous singer who left the band before they took their name.
Ian Parker Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 OUCH... I thought i'd heard the worst that was played on the Northern Soul scene, but this one takes it , hands down
Steve Foran Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I think it is Peter Jarrett Run run baby run to me.
Steve Foran Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Same tune also done by Tommy James. Peter Jarrett version was definatly played.
Tomangoes Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I really missed out going to the early casino nighters then Ed 1
Jerry Hipkiss Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Peter Jarett was later, surely - Dalton James and Sutton fits the time frame for me...
Steviehay Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Jesus who the hell played this what a load of ....glad I didn't go til later on and that was bad enough at times
Jim G Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 (edited) Russ played the Dalton, James and Sutton covered up as The Marshall Brothers. I was there.. Edited January 22, 2019 by jim g 1
Guest BabyBoyAndMyLass Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Dalton James and Sutton, not the best Northern soul sound but if you listen to it with a Mod point of view I think it has a lot going for it?
Frankie Crocker Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Surely must have been spun the once and then set aside. MGM had some crack tunes back in the day and many still sound good. There were far fewer tracks around in the 70’s and an urge to spin anything that might appeal so naturally there were a few duds. Fortunately there were more than enough good tunes to keep the dancers happy. I still go weak at the knees when cratedigging in the States and turn up Yellow MGM demos.
