Roburt Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Only a few days into the new year & we've already lost another legendary soul singer. Sherlie Mae Matthews has posted on Facebook that her old friend passed away on Monday. Clydie started out on her recording career as early as 1956 in Little Clydie And The Teens. Her 1st solo 45 escaped in 1957 but she really achieved fame when she joined Ray Charle's Raelettes in the 60's. Many more solo outings followed and then in the 70's she was in the Blackberries and Brown Sugar. She also cut many tracks as a backing singer, working as part of LA's elite female bunch of studio session singers. She'll be much missed. Edited January 9, 2019 by Roburt 3
Roburt Posted January 9, 2019 Author Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Her biggest track @ the Wheel ... a fine duet ... she worked quite a bit with Jimmy Holiday at that time ... Edited January 9, 2019 by Roburt 2

David Meikle Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) I love all of Clydie’s Imperial and Minit output. She was recording 10 years earlier with such as this nice doo wop number from 1957. Written by Andrew Franklin...not Aretha. RIP Clydie “Ready Willing and Able” Edited January 9, 2019 by David Meikle 1
JOHNNYBETCHA Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 RIP Clydie - can't remember a bad record from her, and a fit-looking bird as well. 1

Popular Post Michael V Posted January 9, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2019 Great choices David, and nice tributes from all to this talented, sadly departed lady. 'The Thrill Is Gone' is one of a group of Spectoresque beauties Clydie cut at Imperial .Clydie's late 60's Minit sides are nice, too;always loved 'I'll Never Stop Loving You'. The Minit sides were cut at around the same time as Clydie's stint as one of The Raelets in 1967/8; she's on the Tangerine (HMV over here) 45' One Hurt Deserves Another/One Room Paradise, singing back up to Merry Clayton's lead. Nice to see you post one of Clydie's earlier Doo Wop gems- 'Promises' on Philips in 62' with The Sweet Things was a treat, too. Speaking of Doo -Wop, we've also recently lost-on Jan 1st,aged 76- Sheldon 'Shelly' Buchansky 2nd tenor of the fine Brooklyn Doo Wop group Vito & The Salutations, who cut excellent & successful versions of 'Gloria' & 'Unchained Melody' but are probably best known to Soul Sourcers for their great Northern Soul classic of 65' 'I'd Best Be Going' on Red Boy (later on Sandbag) Maybe some of Clydie's gems like 'Ready Willing And Able' and ' My Love Grows Deeper' and Vito & The Salutations will get a few spins this weekend, that would be a nice tribute, too 5 1
Bossfourpart1 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Great loss ! I'll be spinning a few of her tracks this Sunday in a tribute to her passing away .. Last Pub standing Norwich.
Geoff Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 Sorry to read of Clydie's passing, a fine singer. I love Missin' My Baby, Soft And Gentle Ways, and Thrill Is Gone, and will listen to the others that have been posted here. Unfortunately losing our singers is something we've got to expect as they reach older age. RIP Clydie King
