A new year, a new photography thread! Thanks to everyone who's participated in these threads, whether as a photographic contributor, a commenter, or as someone who just pops in from time to time to admire the latest offerings. The Soul Source photography thread now enters its sixth year (well, technically it started life in April of 2013, but who cares?), which I think is amazing.

As I mentioned in the last post of the 2018 thread, its longevity is entirely down to you and your continued involvement, so thank you one and all for making this a real highlight for so long. Cheers, and here's to another photo-filled year!

Sunset and spray - Mykonos.

I was rather pleased with this shot considering it was taken using just my iPad.

Wow a fabulous image. Would look great enlarged as a picture. 😊

Thanks, both. There is bit of a story to this, which is quite funny.

About two minutes earlier, one of those giant island-to-island catamarans had come speeding past on its way to Mykonos New Port. The spray was the result of the bow waves hitting the shore. While that gave me a photo opportunity, it wasn't so much fun for my other half, Bev.

She was having a paddle in the sea when the waves hit. Prior to this happening, the sea was pretty calm. Not only did the unexpected waves nearly knock her over with some force, but they almost dragged her into the sea when they retreated. At the same time, her dry clothes and bag - including money, iPhone, etc, etc (all of which was several metres safely away from the water's edge) - did get dragged into the water and there was a mad scramble by her, and a friend who was with us on holiday, to rescue everything.

All her clothes, the bag, and the contents, got completely soaked through (the phone was in a waterproof case and so was safe). Luckily, we had a travel blanket that she was able to wrap herself in, otherwise it would have been a 20-minute journey back to the hotel in just a soaking swimsuit.

As this little drama happened, I was sat on some large rocks about 20-odd metres away waiting for my photo opportunity. Priorities, right?

Anyway, I got my photo, Bev laughed at her predicament and chalked it up as a mini holiday adventure!

Sounds like a missed opportunity for a You've Been Framed clip! 😉 Poor Bev.....at least she wasn't washed out to sea. You might have had to row over to another island to pick her up.  Great story! 🤗

Haha - we did agree it would have been really funny if it had been caught on video. And the lesson learnt is to get yourself and all your things away from the water's edge whenever one of those monster catamaran ferries comes speeding by at a great rate of knots! 🤣

Thank you. That's a great idea!

Russell. Get it done as a large canvas 36" X 20" to do it justice mate. My sunset at Blackrock sands cost me £90 but it looks amazing on the wall

Nice idea, but being only an iPad-quality image, I doubt it would go that big without losing clarity. Probably get an A4 out of without any trouble.

Russell.  Because of the canvas style you don't need the image quality to be as good as a A3 or A2 photograph.

Nature at its cruellest. Atlantic Seal Pup, probably died in the recent storms that hit the Pembrokeshire coast but now feeding the Gulls. Its skull and spine clearly visible

Understood, but I'd want any blow-up to have the best possible clarity, focus and sharpness. An iPad pic - well, certainly my old one -doesn't offer that at all. Give me SLR or DSLR quality instead. 😉

!don't come on here often but when I do I love looking at these photo's.

I've just used all my likes up for one day in two minutes.

Keep postin, they really are fantastic.

Thanks Bill. It's the kind comments that make the sometimes difficult to get pictures worth it. And that isn't just from me mate, I know that I'm also  speaking for the other contributors to this thread

Two from this evening when I achieved a lifetime ambition and managed to get to the stack rocks and the green bridge of Wales unfortunately my laptop is poorly and I can't get it working,  crashed during a update so can't post any more at moment Some of the waves in the picture where probably 10 metres high when they crashed onto the rocks. 60 maybe 70 metres below me

Vecta? Not familiar with that. Is it an image editing program?

you can covert the file to a vecta graphic, there usually some on free trial. sizing up doent distort with vecta, no matter how large you want it.

Thanks. I had a look online, but could only find this:

https://vecta.io

That appears to be for graphics rather than photos. Am I in the right place?

Just been informed by the PC doctor that my Lenovo laptop hard drive is fcuked.  I'm not happy,  not to bothered about the pictures because they are safe on the cloud,  gutted about a folder that contains pictures of my 26 year old son Thomas cross country race when he was in junior school . They where in a normal folder. Hopefully my ex or Son  will have them somewhere.

So won't be able to post any more picture's  at the  moment .I return home Saturday then I will have to get the laptop sorted . Been quoted  £350 upwards from specialist data recovery services to salvage data . Last resort though.

Going to be a pain uploading all the camera software programs if or more likely when a new hard drive  is needed .

I must admit Steve, despite hard drives and clouds and wotnot, I get my photos printed as well.  I'd be distraught if I lost some of them. Only recently I lost a whole stack of them during an update.  Thankfully they were tucked away safely under my bed.  Hope you get sorted soon.  Should we have a whip round? 😉

Louise.  I have a a portfolio of 60 something large colour photographs 15" X 10 " plus 4 CF  memory cards full, plus cloud back. up . Its my son's school pictures I really want , The hassle of reloading everything  Canon is par for the course.  Not giving up yet, pain been down here in Pembrokeshire,  my local PC repair shop in Manchester  has never let me down,  ( took him a week last time ) but he recovered everything.  Just the frustration of not been able too download my photographs from the  camera.  .

Steve

Just received a what's app from my son Thomas.  He,s got all the pictures from the cross country run. . He won by the way and that was after he had run the course with his girlfriend who won the girls race.

One of my favourites ,taken a couple of years ago whilst out fishing, just love the way that the red tree stands out against the "forest" of green.

Sea caves under St Catherine's island.  Tenby a few minutes ago. And the island with the caves plainly visible the picture was taken from the cave to the left of the large one in the middle of the picture.   My last night here unfortunately.  Back home to Manchester  in the morning, then  work Monday.  Won't be long before I return.

I really wish they had been at least the hotel would have had one nights entertainment in an area offering very little to do at night, on the positive side it has made me take more seriously the chances of it happening next year when we go on a small group tour of Kerala in India, prior to this I have taken it very lightly joking " I'll eat anything so I'm bound to get the trots" doesn't sound half as funny now. Yes the statue was brilliant, they had another sculpture which I think they possibly light up at night that looked like it had what may have been steam rising through it, didn't look much during the day sadly after walking all day we didn't feel up to the walk through a building site to the marina at night.

Setting up the camera and filters for a milky water effect picture.  Will upload the pictures from the camera when my laptop is repaired
