Hipcity Hipster Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I just picked up a copyof Ruby Feminine ingenuity on gold token. It looks slightly better condition than mine but when i played it i felt it sounded a little flat. I wondered if it had been doctored in any way but it looks totally unblemished. So i played mine against it and the drums sound clearer, the vocals fresher, the horns sharper. Its not by much in fact in a venue you'd probably never notice but in my front room i can tell. I was confused. Then i noticed one has "distributed by Malynn enterprises" on it the other doesn't. On further inspection the run out grooves have different matrix numbers. One is ET 100 4700 (that's the distributed by one which sounds sharper) The other has GT 01 4353 (this is the one listed on Discogs - though I'm gonna add the other one). So my theory is this. They issued the record without distribution first. Then they got the distribution deal and remixed it to sound clearer. Not that it helped as obviously it sank without trace. But anyone got any further info? Rob 1
