Little-stevie Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 (edited) Just been onto ebay for the first time in a while..Its just full of shite now with re-issue crap all over the place.. Toooooooooooooo many buy now at 4.99 ....All over every page and that makes the site look cheap, just like the plastic ashtrays for sale at 4.99 ..I would like to see a seperate page on ebay for these records..Sorry if this topic as been done before.. Not against a mix of stuff on there but it seems to have been taken over by the Netto bargain bucket re-issue brigade.. Edited December 14, 2006 by little-stevie
Martint Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 it would be a great relief if all the reissues could at least be in a seperate category so you could just avoid them but I guess ebay aren't interested. This was one of the things I had deliberately set up with my own little auction site (as in https://www.record-dealer.com/Northern-Soul...rent,categories - not used and facing impending extinction/sale due to lack of use/interest).
Guest Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 couldn't agree more....page after page... does my head in!!
Little-stevie Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 Yes mate Thats all i ask for...Seperate box/page/ for re-issue and original 45s..The dealers at soul nights have this system and it makes it so much better..

This was one of the things I had deliberately set up with my own little auction site (as in https://www.record-dealer.com/Northern-Soul...rent,categories - not used and facing impending extinction/sale due to lack of use/interest). shame, is a nice site, only bought one 45 from there though, wish more people had signed up. Ebay is a terrible site usability wise, only popular because it achieved a critical mass of users first (and from memory stuff like QXL around at the time in the mid 90s were even worse) - they made bad design decisions at the start, and it's too late for them to change. just really basic stuff like having separate fields for artist/author, date, title, label/publisher, for records and books (for example, and i'm other items have similar standard fields) would make searching a hundred times easier. they sorted the searching out a bit a year or two ago by syncing the categories between the different sites internationally, but the fact that they even had that problem to begin with makes me doubt their competence...

Still - doesn't stop me from buying some nice deep/ballads/suothern for a quid when others are chasing and paying a fiver for Pye Disco Demand 45s! ATB Rich
Alan T Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 On each page you have 4 tabs, All Items / Auctions / Buy It Now / Classified Ads. Looking at Auctions only will get rid of all the Buy It Now items. It definately would be better to have a seperate section for these though. Tomo
Little-stevie Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 Thanks Tommo That will really help...
Guest bleusuperb Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 To be fair, a lot of people who are selling records, will be unaware if the records are 1st press or reissues or even boots, a lot of the records sold are from people who do not specialise in records. Witness the amount of "Dads old records" etc. type listings, obviously not all are genuine but many will be. How many times on this site do we see members asking for help in identifying whether a record is the real deal? Besides which the best buys are from Joe Public rather than the dedicated collector / dealer.

Good points there..I don't mind the spot a boot part too much, part of the fun sometimes..Its just all the buy now at £4.99 that get me..I like to think ebay is a auction site, some treat it just as a shop now to flog cheap pressings..I now know how to block the buy now stuff after info from above..Thanks for that..
Modernsoulsucks Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 What gets my goat as well are all the UK dealers with their set sale "rarities" that just keep going round and around. You'd think that after trying £100 a few times it might click that maybe the 45 is not worth that really and just auction it off if they wanna get rid. ROD
Guest Netspeaky Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 The whole idea of ebay is a mass market place to sell whatever so you can't complain about it, get real, ebay wasn't set up to cater for us original soul vinyl collectors, if you want just an original northern soul auction selling original vinyl then JM, PB and others cater for it.
Haydn Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Too true Steve, Just a thing that has been frustrating me recently though and it may start another thread...... If genuine newly released re-issues on sale command that an artist gets a share of their well deserved earnings, (here we go...) the original records that sell from dealer to customer/dealer/dj surely just goes into the pocket of the said dealer who relishes in the high price of rarities and the artist gets zilch. A strange world of Northern Soul indeed when we still get the politics of what release should be played on the scene. Surely a release that conveys any monies to the artist is more beneficial or does it not matter that an artist can see the price of his original release sell to Tom, Dick and Harry on Ebay and be sitting there wishing he/she could pay off some debts. Just a thought Haydn

Just a thought Haydn [/quo there seems to be more British sellers than American sellers , can't even say lucky American buyers because it's shite they are selling. I for one have just about had enough of ebay , there are plenty of private auctions and sales without ebay
Mark Bicknell Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Not to mention......T - Shirts, Badges,Mugs,Clocks, Cufflinks,Watches,Coasters not the group the things you put a drink on...lol and pretty much everything else you can put the Northern Soul - Keep The Faith logo on, if you can wade through page after page of this stuff then there are still a few nice bargains to be found, like Mark said Ebay is not exclusive to Rare and Authentic records it's there for everyone to use, i agree with Stevie it's swamped with this tack, just frustrating to have to wade through page after page of it, trouble is most of it goes unsold and as with the set price 'buy it now' overpriced 45's as Rod pointed out it all goes round and round in the mix. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Guest Netspeaky Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 If It's something specfic that your after you can norrow it down by using the search facilities, no need to wade through pages and pages of Northern Soul (Currently showing 3724 items) to find what you want.
Makemvinyl Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 (edited) Proof ebay allow bootlegs as someone must have had a moan as have had 2 weeks but didnt charge me for the advert nice peeps at ebay couldnt find my original post Dear makemvinyl, You recently listed the following auction-style listing: 200061639409 - NORTHERN SOUL AMNESIA RECORDS AVOID The listing was removed because it violated the eBay No Item policy. The violation occurred when you included the following information in your listing: AMNESIA RECORDS these people are not only taking the eyes out of record collecting but also money out of the artists pockets and we are subsidising by buying these are all bootlegs and not official issues ask Carla Thomas Licensed to Kent records Millie Jackson etc do not buy FROM HERE https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZamnesiarecordsQQhtZ-1 Edited December 27, 2006 by MAKEMVINYL
