Popular Post Roger Banks Posted October 10, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 10, 2018 (edited) Just received details of Dave's funeral for those of you that want to attend and say your final farewells. It will take place on Friday 26th October at 12.20 at Rosehill Crematorium, Ascot Ave, Cantley, Doncaster DN4 6HE followed by a bit of a do at The Top Club, Bungalow Rd, New Edlington, Doncaster DN12 1DL For those of you that don't know already, Dave passed away this morning. Fortunately for us, we were lucky enough to spend some very very special time with Dave yesterday and we'll treasure those last moments of friendship. When we left I told him that I (Jenny) loved him and for the first time ever he told me he loved me and then spent the last few minutes we were there with Roger. I don't know exactly what was said but between friends it had to be done. Mr Owen we salute you, we love you and hope that you are at peace with Wendy by your side. Until we meet again -Cry No More xxxxx Edited October 11, 2018 by roger banks 10
Souljer6 Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Dave was a proper northern soul man. He was there when virtually all of us first started and never wavered. He had a real love for the music and dug deep. He helped me out of a pile of shit at Sale Mecca 1974 and I am just so sorry that I never made it over to see him like I promised him I would in his last few months. R.I.P Dave. Rich 3
Davenpete Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Very sad news - had huge respect for Dave (and of course Wendy) - as Roger says they were the very best of the real thing. Pete & Dave 2
Guest Gypsy Lane Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Such sad news, Dave will be much missed. He was always fantastic company, was blessed with a lovely dry sense of humour, had a deep knowledge of and passion for the music and was just an absolute legend. Rest In Peace my friend.
Popular Post muckyherbert Posted October 11, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2018 So sad to hear this, Dave was a very big influence on me as a youngster starting out and his knowledge was second to none, he always had time for a chat and some of his stories had you in stitches. I didn't see him nearly as often as I could have done since he moved to Doncaster from Sheffield but I can't change that now. I know he ruffled a few peoples feathers in the past but I am proud to be able to say we were friends. One of the scenes original characters who I am sure will be missed by many. R.I.P. Tomangoes Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Anybody got a recent photo of Dave. Was he at the Las Vegas / Kev Roberts event in March? Ed
Popular Post spot Posted October 12, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2018 Spent many a happy hour with Dave & Wendy, specially at Whitby, endless stories of fun and wrong doing, some folk didn't like him but they were usually the ones that didn't know him, everytime we saw him he'd tell me some relevant details of a tune and how it related to his life, then he and Gail would chat for hours about cleaning house & vacuums. A definite one off and I'm only sorry we never saw him & Wendy as much as we should have or promised to. R.I.P. Dave. 6
Popular Post Soulfulhound Posted October 12, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2018 (edited) Very sad news indeed. Dave was the original "Big Timer" who had been to every nighter from The Mojo onwards, who's knowledge of all things vinyl and pharmacutical was second to none. Used to go up to his flat 2 or 3 times a week when he lived on t'Hyde Park in Sheffield with his then wife Brenda, in 1973, where he would have us all in stitches with his tales of old nighters, characters and dodgy deals. But he was the biggest character of all - the biggest Big Timer. Sincere condolences to all his family. R.I.P. Mr Owen... Chris Brooke Edited October 12, 2018 by SOULFULHOUND 7
petewsheff Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Just shows how you can lose touch with people. Just seen this about Dave. As per Chris above, they were good nights at Daves back in 73. Chris, Shaun and myself and sometimes Gus. Remember many a time seeing him up a cradle, window cleaning on Redgates building on Monday morning after all nighters, shouting down asking if i'd got any gear?. I remember once him telling us he had some grass to sell and it was good stuff. Well! It certainly was grass, council had just cut that big hill behind Midland station , spent time at his flat opposite barracks as well when he was with Karen, think just about everyone who was anybody on the scene went to that flat Russell Davy, Pete Tildsley, Maria, Andy Wilson also Dodger and his girlfriend lived in flat above him for a while, just to name a few. Counted Dave and Wendy as mates, proper all nighter people. R.I.P Dave Pete 1
