Mike Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 A suggestion from @Chris Turnbull leads us to this round of version battles. Normally try and keep them to 2 or 3 choices for layout/display reasons but will see how a five timer goes this time around As always any suggestions just pm me, there is an ongoing list and try to reply to all suggestions John Edwards - The Look On Your Face Nate Evans - The Look On Your Face The Magnetics - The Look On Your Face James Phelps -The Look On Your Face Satin - Your Loves Got Me 5 choices, as always feel free to share/discuss your reasoning, background, related stories and so on finish is a week or so away you go... 1
Chris Turnbull Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Brilliant thanks Mike James Phelps for me, first heard Butch play it on Yarmouth w/e radio early 1991 and still the best and most soulful IMO. Always found John Edwards version a bit lightweight though his voice is great. Others similar but inferior to JP, though Satin a good effort 1
Scootboy Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 All the versions are great but the Satin's version works better for me,I like the absence of backing vocals, 1
John Siret Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 John Edwards Satin James Phelps Nate Evans Magnetics . In this order for me.
Mal C Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) Mine are near to Johns with small swap at the top. James Phelps voice is sooo good, but I don’t think it comes through on this song... btw, the white label demo of satin on the clip, mines a blue demo, never seen a white one, it that legit, ie not had a bit of photoshoping? Satin John Edwards James Phelps Nate Evans Magnetics . Edited October 5, 2018 by Mal C 1
The Yank Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I think I'll go with James Phelps with Satin in a very close second place.
Twoshoes Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Satin for me, like Scootboy I prefer the absence of the LaLa's in the backing, anyone tell me which was the original release and why the Satin one is titled differently and why the variations on writing credits other than Floyd Smith. 1
Popular Post Trev Thomas Posted October 6, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 6, 2018 THINK THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL 5
Chalky Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 James Phelps, others are good but his voice/vocals is just far superior 1

Mike Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 a midweek kick James Phelps running away with it?
Steviehay Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 james phelps still chasing one 2 ,first heard it on a cd and wow.... john edwards 2nd choice the other 3 very bland in comparison
Soulman58 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 John Edwards by a long way for me. Love his vocal and the overall production knocks the others into touch.
manus Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 James Phelps for me first heard this at Mickey Powney's house in Birtley around 1975/76 and thought it was brilliant and then was very pleased hear it and the other ( all good) versions being spun late 80s. 1
Mike Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 poll closing tomorrow am so last chance for your 'say' fairly tight so your shout could have an effect!
Mark B Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 james phelps for me but the production on the magnetics is probably the best
