Went out for a few in Peterborough Saturday night with those that have done the Wheel thing, and like me had a go at the Tunstall experience and said hello to the early Casino...I guess come 10pm must have been 20 of us talking about a The Lantern, 12 a quid, Bustaids, Alan Day, Tony Jebb and Glen Bellamy at Bletsoe, etc etc etc...
One bloke in particular who I hadn't seen for 30 years spoke for most there who suggested that the 'gear' and staying out all night 'blocked' was the only reason why most from these parts went all-nighting the same bloke who hated the records then, now loves what some call the 'northern soul sound' 53 years old and he simply justs enjoy the music...doesn't go to the soul nights just buys one CD each week to play in his car which he sings along too...
An English bloke who's been there, worn the tee shirt is oblivious to the current UK SOUL scene who for what is worth honestly believes that The Magnetics--I have a Girl, is the best thing ever to be laid down...
While some of us discuss labels, run out grooves, jocks playing cd;s and that venues that resemble sports halls there are many out there like my mates who just "keep on keepin on" unaware of the backstabbing sh--it that has encapsulated our scene.
