Guest Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 (edited) I had to look twice at the price of this record on John Manships auction! It's a fabulous Northern Soul classic on DJ, but £479? I have never seen it anywhere near that price. The auction has not finished yet, could go more! Edited August 19, 2018 by Guest
Patto Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Yep was surprised myself. However its not easy these days to find the original 9723 Demos.Even the later 1035 reissue fetches a tidy sum
Winsford Soul Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 How much? That's ridiculous is there a extra digit in the price by mistake. Great record though. Steve 1

No yellow demo? All the demos I have seen are yellow label, 9723 first issues. Edited August 19, 2018 by Guest
Russoul1 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 yes had to take a second look.....theres been a few dj copies go thru popsike with plenty of the 72 reissues doesn't seem to be to many 9723 issues showing though? brought a 1st issue of here via wants a few years ago £20.00...………...seems like a bargain now lol
Wiggyflat Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I pulled out a mint orange issue in a shop in San Fran in 1999....i would be interested to know why it was reissued in the U.S.A. Was it a local hit?
Mick Holdsworth Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 I never saw the stock copy of 9723 until the nineties. Mid seventies there were loads of orange 1035, and quite a few yellow 9723 demos, but never an orange 9723 It may be different now, but back then it was probably the rarest. Cheers Mick 1

Was it a local hit? I assumed it was reissued for us in UK - a couple of years later RCA did the range of UK biggies (Paul Anka / Roy Hamilton / Laura Greene / Michael & Raymond / Dean Courtney etc. etc.)

Was it a local hit? Think it was for UK Northern Soul demand in the early 70's. Lorraine Chandler, Roy Hamilton etc were repressed on orange USA, RCA issues as well.
Davenpete Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Just goes to show there are some very wealthy knobs around nowadays. Think I sold my demo for £35 about 30 years ago. Dx
Patto Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 What did it end up going for did it go above the 479

Marty57 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 There was one for sale on soul source about a week ago for £ 150 ? You can buy the album Caviar & Chitlins for about £30 -£40 'blowing up' in stereo !, sounds awesome by the way, + lots of other good tracks , confused.com

Totally crazy price on what should be a cheap 45 Some people will pay over the top prices, one of the reasons I've sold loads over the past year and why I don't bother buying much northern any more.
Mot Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Crazy price.....I sold one about a year ago, had it up for £100 (which I thought was the going rate), couldn't sell it.......got £80 in the end. I have seen them on lists for up to £150, but that's got to be top wack.
Popular Post Chalky Posted August 23, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 23, 2018 All the historical evidence suggests £150. If you put up a want and said £500 waiting you’d probably have got dozens of offers of a copy, absolutely barmy. The market is getting more and more skewed everyday. 6
Mark B Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I sold my copy for £100.00 about 9 or 10 years ago
Kjw Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Whover bought it will learn the error of their ways when they come to sell it
Marty57 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Just for the record..... i got my copy off Rob Smith about 8yrs ago for £40 ex + to replace the one i sent for out of blues & soul mag, on comtempo in 1974 , from memory i think it was released on casino classics too,? couple of years later ?

Afternoon of the Rhino anyone? LoL
Mick Sway Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 Why not invest in half a dozen underplayed tunes if you've got the dosh, with respect there's plenty of scope to add to the collection out there. A UK Maxi single copy is good enough for me these days, which was still technically, a first UK issue anyway. Not that I've got that kind of auction money sadly.
