I guess this thread leaves the Motown catalogue in big contention, heres one that really makes me feel great 🙂

I’ll say this though, you can’t have total happiness without just a hint of sadness, surely:-)

My girl - Temptations

I can tell by the look in your eyes (live version) - Maze

This will be - Natalie Cole

We had the sad, now it's all about the glad!

Heard this randomly yesterday for the first time in yonks and it really brought a smile to my day.

Fantastic memories of this being big back in '72. Forgotten for a while, but still sounds as good as it did 46 years ago. The instrumental flip got most plays, but I always had a soft spot for the vocal. Class tune.

Little Milton is quite rightly revered for his 60's Chess/Checker recordings, but for me, the stuff he released on Stax in the early seventies is far superior. How this one ever got past the company censors is beyond me, but I'm glad it did, as it brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. Great lyrics.

OK then, I'll bite, and list it. Back in 73-75, when I was DJing, this was always the first record of every single spot I played. Long, long before it seemingly became a "Wigan Classic". A perfectly sung song, showcasing exactly why Billy DingDong was probably the best male singer Stax ever had on its books. Catchy, uplifting, and guaranteed to make you smile, (from ear to ear). Bloody good dancer too!

Great album. Heatwave was one of the first Motown LPs I ever bought.

There's one that is head and shoulders above all others for me (BTW I'm in the market - it's time I bought one) - one of the finest soul records ever made.

Mind you close to the top of the list for me is Rubin's You've been away, especially hearing it played by Brian Rae in mr m's after getting out from an extended vacation a day before and in a rather sensory heightened state of being (due to all the excitement of course) thank God for our abilities for long term memories in detail for nighters and the scene  providing such rich ones.

If this doesn't make you feel  happy and tap your feet you must be asleep . Does it get any better feel good than this.

So many great records on this thread already, and some great memories to accompany them. This is a prime example, for me anyway. Massive sound back in 73, probably, along with 1972, one of the greatest years this scene has seen as far as discovering top quality tunes that have stood the test of time.

On a more personal level, it has always reminded me of what was possibly one of my greatest regrets. It was the favourite tune of my first REALLY serious girlfriend. I broke up with her, stupidly, just prior to joining the Navy in 74. Not one day has passed since then that I haven't thought about her. And I can't listen to this without immediately picturing her. The rashness of youth, eh? C'est la vie and all that.

Joey. Same sort of thing with me only the Gerri Thomas record.  I have the same regrets with my 1st real love. I took a friend of mine ( female  ) to the Casino and my girlfriend who was sat waiting for me on the stairs nr the top balcony.  She looked at me then burst out crying and run off before I could explain anything. April  1979  i never forget.   Only seen her once a year later as she drove past me.

Would love to see her to explain.

As I said, the rashness of youth, eh? Que sera sera etc. Last time I saw mine would've been the winter of 75. Did two more niters early 76 before jacking it all in, but she wasn't there. Have always wondered how she got on in life, and just hoped she was happy. Like yourself, I'd have liked to have seen her one more time, if only to say sorry, and let her know how I really felt, and the reason I had to finish things.  Although it may be said that I finally "made it" in life, and became relatively wealthy etc., any life with me would have been rocky for her, to say the very least. And she deserved far better than what I could have given her. Oh well........

Absolute quality. Fond memories of times past, when life seemed so very much simpler. Genuinely uplifting.

always wanna dance when i here this

Massive tune in the Summer of 71, through 72 and onwards. One of the very first records I hunted for in earnest, and one of the first I learned how to dance "properly" to. Still gives me goosebumps almost half a century later.
