Not forgetting

Yes, another northern soul dancefloor latin anthem.  In the mid noughties we went berserk to this down the Oxford Street basement.  You certainly know your latino onions Andy.

This one would certainly send a few tumbling over the manhole cover in front of the stage at number one hundred.

Hi Jose-

Thanks for the info> My early Salsoul releases don't mention anything about Mericana

they just show "A division of Caytronics- a Cayre Industries Company". This release of "La Botella"

on Epic does show the connection though.

Does anyone like the B side to this?

I do, but it's very strange, it goes from crap to awesome to crap to brilliant again. I think it's Joe singing isn't it... if so, he's got a voice more suitable for instrumentals.

YES its Latin and some of its  good BUT ...…….. No matter how you dress it up ITS NOT NORTHERN SOUL and never will be to anyone who was around pre 1980

Everything in moderation.

Good djs can mix it all up and get away with fringe records.

I've been to nights when it's a run of 6 or more obscurities and the atmosphere gets killed!

I think the first 'latin' tune I heard was Ricardo Ray's excellent Nitty Gritty. Must have been 1971/72, it was played all over at the time.

A nice one to own on UK Roulette.

I picked up an issue copy of this at Leamington record fair a couple of months ago:

My favorite track by Georgie Fame is a cover he did of "Today Meninha Baiana" (originally by Gilberto Gil):

And here's the Gilberto Gil one (the high vocal notes are the bomb!):

Heres the original backing track to the Jobell Orchestra first heard Colin Law play this at the 100 club a couple of years ago it Rocked the Dancefloor.

Us 100 Clubbers have always had a soft spot for Latin since it first got played there in the mid 80s.

A lot of that had to do with the fact that Latin was played on the Mod scene  back then so we already knew the Rhythms anyway

Definitely feeling a lot more educated regarding the Latin music after this thread, turned out really well!

Keep up the good work Latin fans! Many thanks for the contributions! :hatsoff2:

Latin beats have allways been a part of it all as long as I can remember , more valid in my view than a lot of blue eyed soul that gets played

certainly as far as today goes mark. Much more relevant than the pop stuff whether we like it or not
