Hi folks!

Zane Hunter is away, so I have recorded the show and uploaded it via Megaupload. Please let me know if the link works! If not, I´ll use another host for the upload.

To download click link below:

Cheers Shaun for a great show! Enjoyed the likes of General Crook, Al James, The Ethics, Whatnauts, Fantastic Four, Beres Hammond, Carla Whitney and more...

Carla Whitney is a Canandian soul singer. I don´t know how many albums she has put out, but I am sure I have one of them on a reissue CD that came out about ten years ago, where her album is coupled with that of another Canadian (male) soul singer.

Zane, when you come back. I am curious to know what records you bagged when you were over in the States.

Once again, please let me know if the download link works!!! Otherwise I´ll post again.

Best,

Melismo

PS. Shaun, uploaded on the EMS forum as well!

Albert Jones is the name of the singer referred to above. How much does his original LP go for these days?

There was so much black music coming from Canada back in the day, lots of now forgotten gems.

Thanks APPLE CRUMBLE, i'll be at the studio next Sunday, i was recently in Italy when i saw a irish wolf hound that bore a startling resemblance to "Alfred Lord Tennyson", of course i was shaken like an animal taking a bullet, but i eventually composed my terrible soaking sweats and realised that i needed to take the moral high ground before choosing my 30/40 tracks for the excellent Mr Robbins Sunday Soul Selection Show............

................

(And a word of warning if anyone trys to cut my records into any other shows they will be dealing with me on the cobbles guaranteed..i know there are some people out there fronting shows not playing their own records, but copying via the mp3 format and cheating their listeners) can't wait let's bring it on Shaun. Hi Shaun!

I'm a big fan of Solar Radio and especially of the Sunday Soul Selection. I'm from California studying in London for universityand I just started to listen in recently after attending a lecture on Northern Soul at my school.

I was wondering if you can dedicate a song to my girlfriend Tarja (pronounced Tar-ya). It'll be our year aniversary and I'm getting her into Northern Soul by listening to the station every sunday. I know you must get a lot of requests and I'm not quite sure what the policy is, but it would be very cool if you could put a song up for her. We're both relatively new to Northern Soul, so we don't have an "our song." I'm more into deep soul, and she likes the etta james, shemekia copeland, janiva magness type of music. Do you have a song in mind for such an occasion?

Great Show!

Right i'll play Jaqueline Jones "You Make My Life A Sunny Day" on Loadstone 3949 for Tar-Ya, absolutley outstanding Californian brooding down tempo soul music........When listening please remove any "Asprin bottles" or "Sharp objects", i don't need any suicides on my hands..........

Oh wow you guys are amazing! You know, I got into soul music when I learned about sampling in hip hop production. I have a passion for good hip hop and my friend makes beats. I heard a bunch of samples Kanye West used, and I fell in love with a lot of these old tunes. I met some "crate diggers" online and started to find the sample in every rap song I knew and loved. I still like the hip hop and have a new respect for sampling techniques in beat production, but the "soul" of the track is still coming from the good ol' music that you guys play on Solar Radio.

My name is Sean too, just spelled differently. "This one's dedicated to Tarja, from her Seany."

Thanks again guys! Maybe I'll come out to Manchester if school's not too much.

Bob Smith (or Mick Smith as Bobb Semple called him before the show!) always does the business in our opinion!

Great selections today, as ever - particularly the Temptations - The Eamonn Song (come on, he sings "Eamonn At Your Heart")

Betty & Angel, Olympics, Rhetta Hughes, Jo Armstead, Brenda Parker (particular favourite), Hesitations (another particular favourite)

Hi-Fi White (what can you say)

How good is that Anacostia - On & Off .....? Stormer!

Here are the normal download links, hope they work!

Another great show - I particularly like those Eccentric Soul CDs - amongst the chaff there's some great material.

The standout tracks for me today were Joe King, Johnnie Taylor (fantastic version), Melvin Davis (always been a favourite), the 2 Sandra Wright tracks (lovely), Sisters' Love (bagged one - thanks Shaun), David Ruffin (should keep Mr Millward happy), Elvin Spencer (wish I owned this on a 45), Brothers By Choice (how good does that sound these days?), Gladys Knight & The Pips and Words Of Wisdom

Oh, and what about Julius Thomas - I Gotta Change My Ways Pt.1 (Wild) 45 - nice innit?

I expect these links could be well used this week as it appears that some could not listen in live.

https://SRSSS28Oct07fullshow.notlong.com

https://SRSSS28Oct07inparts.notlong.com

Nevertheless, it was definitely worth it - the show goes from strength to strength!

Some really great tracks this week, in my opinion at least

Change Of Pace

Paul Kelly (trembling soul)

the 2 Chuck Jackson tracks

Chapter 8

The Artistics (wonderful)

Pat Dennis (nice one, must track a copy down)

Richard Popcorn Wylie

Pacific Gas & Electric

Gloria Lynne

the two Sy Hightower tracks and, of course, just about anything by Linda Jones (we have a friend in New York who actually knew her and has a bunch of unreleased presses, which I'm trying to prise away from him!).

If anyone wants a VG+ copy of the Sy Hightower 45, here you go.....

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SY-HIGHTOWER-...VQQcmdZViewItem

The standout track for me was Brief Encounter - Just A Little Notion

If anyone has a problem with these megaupload links, then let me know and I'll try to help.

All the best,

Zane
