A new topic set up for new (or even longtime ) members to post up a Soul Source intro

Nothing major needed, just a quick heads up to all our members, letting them know that you are on here and ideally a brief bit about yourself.

It's a great way to break the ice!

Hi, my name is Debbie Massey

As a young Northern Soulie, my early years on the scene 74-81. Just a bit too young to have visited The Torch and Twisted Wheel (sadly) but lived the dream every weekend at amazing venues: Manchester Ritz, Blackpool Mecca, Wigan, Notts Palais, Birmingham Le-Carno, Matlock Pavilion and many more. Marvellous times.

Then adult work life Take-over followed by family Take-over.

Now beautiful teenage daughter moved on. It's back to the Northern way of life Take-over. And I'm hitting the scene and dance floor with mad crazy vengeance. Once again living the dream and loving every minute.

Thanks but still feeling a bit vulnerable as wife is still away. Glad I've got the records to keep me occupied.

Being burgled is a horrible experience - It happened to me many moons ago. I came back from a soul night and I couldn't get in to my house because they had locked it from the inside.

When I finally got in, the place was a mess, I looked across my living room to see one of my record boxes had been opened (The latches were undone) My heart sank, I raced over to it, opened it, only to find they hadn't taken a single one! Then I had a sudden comedy moment of..."Oh. Well they could have at least taken one!".... I half expected to find a tape from them to put my terrible taste in music right :D

The nastiest bit was that I was getting married in a couple of weeks, and they had stolen the wedding rings, and to add insult to injury, they placed the two wedding ring boxes neatly on the pillows on our bed. In hindsight I should have seen that as an omen, as that was my first marriage.....

Your head wonders though - I was at a soul night, people knew I was out, who was it? I even confronted some lads who used to hang around our street, but those thoughts are not healthy. You just have to put it down as bad luck, and try your best to forget it.

    All the best,

    Len

Sorry to hear that Len. Still blame myself, in a way, but been told it's the scum that broke in is to blame. We got burgled 24 years ago while both out at work, the house alarm was installed the following week. Records not touched on either occasion. Not sure what that means to a burglars taste in music, LOL. They're just after money to put up their noses. ATB.

Any relation to the famous actor, Basil?  He's one of my very favourites.

    Hi to everyone,

just a few lines of introduction, from an alien idiot from a council house 'up north'... well midlands really, mining village near Mansfield, was walking round my now home town of Weymouth (always wanted to live near the sea), and came across a billboard advertising a northern weekender at the Riviera hotel in Weymouth a little search for info brought me here... keen to link up with anyone who recalls the scene in the Nottingham area during the seventies, Notts Palais de Danse, Chris King at the Vic Center, Selectadisc, Crazy Daisy in Sheffield, or any of the surrounding area pubs and clubs that regularly had motown soul northern on the menu... Use to go to the sunday nighters at Cleethorpes winter gardens..... Did anyone else spend a small fortune at Roxy Threads? If anyone from Dorset wants to get in touch please feel free... chat, meets, spin some tunes, garage is still full of Vinyl.....  wishing you all the very best and continued enjoyment of the sounds we love and hold dear. Welcome Terry, be sure to post a thread in 'All about the soul' it can be about your fave sounds/venues/memories. Also check out 'Look at your box' and add something there if you like, after 50 years collecting you must have some knowledge for the 'Soul source guide to record collecting'? Enjoy, and again, welcome! :hatsoff2:

    Hi, Thanks for the add!

Love Northern Soul, as with other members, my Mod years in the early 80s introduced me to it.

Along with attending Northern Nights & Nighters I also attend Scooter Rallies.

Started a Northern Night recently and thought I would advertise here and maybe get to meet some of you! 😎
