Popular Post Amsterdam Russ Posted August 13, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 13, 2018 Like many on here, I've very few pics of me at nights or nighters. In fact, I can probably count them on one hand. Anyway, I found two that I'd scanned some years back... This is me standing by my mate's rusty motor outside an alldayer in a tiny village hall somewhere in the deep, rural backwoods of Suffolk. I haven't a clue where this might have been and not sure of the year, but reckon it was about 1987. Me and the late Jim Demetriou in a caravan at the Great Yarmouth Weekender in 1990. 6

Popular Post Kenb Posted August 22, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 22, 2018 I got sent this picture yesterday, by email. (me on the right) In 1970 The Thompson Arms was (to us) just a normal pub. I always remember it had Fireman’s helmets adorning the place. I guess because it was so close to London Rd Fire Station. The pub sat at the corner of Chorlton St bus station – so it was a 5 mins walk to Whitworth St. The pint isn’t mine. I couldn’t even hold a pint let alone drink a full one. It’s passed to me purely for the photo. That i do remember. It’s likely to have been Brown Split with Bitter. That’s what the “older lads” drank. Pete (left) and Fred (middle) were “older lads”. They weren’t (what i believe are now called ‘faces’) but they knew nice people who knew other nice people (not the villainous variety) so could get you in places. I put the picture at about 1970...but not sure. 7

We may have been poor, but we were still smart most of the time! Like me back then, you were obviously taken under the wings of the "big" lads. We were pretty similar I think, save for the pint. You couldn't hold a pint of "mixed", I couldn't hold a pint of "brown and mild"! Lol. Happy days.

I put the picture at about 1970...but not sure. Great photo Ken, if I had a pic like that it'd be framed on my wall, I don't. It's saying all sorts to me, Wristwatches. Back in the day everyone wore them, if you were a person that had to be somewhere at a particular time you wore one, or maybe a pocket watch. Nowadays they're not as universal, people check the time with a phone, crap in comparison. Binge drinking in youths. Not a thing back then, likely a guys first drink would've been in the company of older lads or men from work, who probably knew your Dad or Uncle, where it'd be considered very uncool to be seen the worse for wear with drink, you learnt to have a few and to know where your limit was in the company of mature men who would look after you but would be clear about it when you'd had enough. All this made a young guy mature properly and transition into a 'bloke', the work and social environment was a big influence on young men, taught you respect and how to act like a 'man'... A sadly lacking thing in the current societal model for young up and coming lads. Proper 'blokes' in the background that wouldn't have thought twice about dishing out some 'advice' should any young lads have got out of hand, which would've been frowned upon and doubtless word would've got back to your old man and work mates and you'd have had the stigma of having acted like a d***, in those days you had to build up to being respected, respect not to be confused with the modern 'respec bruv' which isn't the same. Really enjoyed that pic Ken, thanks for sharing it.

Guest BabyBoyAndMyLass Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 One from me, this one was last week. Atlantic Soul Collective (Caroline Dann) with Soultone Promotions (Tony Perrott) apart from the much larger Soul on Wax (Dean Carr and Lee Vowles RIP) these are the two promoters active in Cornwall, although small we have an intimate scene that is right across the board, well worth looking out for an event if you're down here on holiday. This particular one a Friday evening session at 'The Rockpool' at Godrevy, an awesome setting 300 yards from the Atlantic. Here I am with well known Casino babes Dell and Sue!
