Tony Turner Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 In the early 80s I remember an instrumental that I think was called ‘Don’t Make Promises’. It was either by an unknown artist or possibly by A Stitch In Time. Does anybody remember/have any details about it? 1
soulAdequateNP Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) It's uncredited (just "Instrumental" on the label), but is the B-side of a pop record by a group called The Stitch In Tyme. Canadian release on the Yorkville label. Scan attached - remember having it on a tape covered up as Billy Jackson Orchestra "If It Takes Forever" Edited April 22, 2018 by soulAdequateNP Label scan and more info added

Godzilla Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 It's also the backing track to a vocal version (also on Yorksville) by Susan King. Cover of a Tim Hardin original. 1
Soulsides Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) There's this version too by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap. Edited April 22, 2018 by Soulsides
Godzilla Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 Scottish Singer Tam White cut it too - and a version of Girl Watcher of course. Future Thoughts is his best though - proper Mod / Psych banger! 1
Soulsides Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) Seems pretty popular all round this one . Bobby Darin had a shot at it in 66 and Scott McKenzie recorded his version in 67. There's also a cut of the track by 3 Dog Night Lock the thread hehe... Edited April 22, 2018 by Soulsides

Thanks for that info mate, you had my immediate interest there as soon as I saw the marvellous worlds of Mod and Psyche grouped together ! Will have to check that one out.. Soulsides Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 (edited) This thread .. I think we should have a Soul Source poll to decide which one of these versions of 'Don't Make Promises' is the most 'Northern' coupled with a nice friendly non partisan debate in the comments.....hmm, but then again on second thoughts it's a debate that could rage out of control and run forever.. with both disagreement and heartfelt belief, passionate alliances forged and then broken ! Until the next original test pressing of a Frank Wilson 'Do I Love You ' 45 turns up that is..
