Soul-slider Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) Any info on this pair who did the 2 sided classic...? It has been suggested that Carol is 'Carole Bayer Sager' who was married to Burt Bacharach. So who's Gerri? Anybody know? Gerri Diamond perhaps? Edited April 20, 2018 by Soul-Slider
Roburt Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Check this out ... an Amazon digital track ..... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords= +How+Can+I+Find+a+Way+The+Fifth+Estate 1
The Yank Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 There was a thread on SS a few years back (2015) - basically the backing band was identified as the D-Men who later became the Fifth Estate. Carol and Gerri were remembered as "a couple of girls from the neighborhood". 1 1

The Yank Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) This is the unreleased version of "How Can I Ever Find A Way" from the Fifth Estate CD. Someone just made it look like it was a Red Bird promo. It is slightly different from the released version- definitely not the same from 0:09- 0:15 when you compare the 2 versions side by side. Lionelonthevinyl Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 (edited) To the best of my knowledge and reading as much as possible about this record........no one knows who they are....one of my favourite double sided tunes....fantastic,, and I doubt anyone can say for definite who these ladies are....kind regards and have a great weekend......Rob Edited April 21, 2018 by Lionelonthevinyl
Chalky Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 I spent a few hours one day trying to find some info, not a sniff. Carole Bayer Sager can be contacted easy enough via her website and Gerri sounds nothing like Gerri Diamond to these ears, she can also be contacted easy enough too.
Chalky Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) There is a recording by Carol & Sherry on MGM (K13308). Carole Bayer Sager & Sherry N. Harway. I've messaged Carole, see if she replies. Edited April 21, 2018 by chalky 3

There's far more instrumentation on the MGM version too - I think the Fifth Estate was a work in progress, more of a basic recording, albeit 99% finished. 1
Mick Holdsworth Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) I always felt the inclusion of the track on the CD was just a mistake, as Fifth estate were an all male group. Maybe the tape was found along with the other Wadlams / Askew compositions / recordings and it was just presumed to be them. Just my impression. and I may be wrong. Soul-slider Posted April 21, 2018 Author Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) Bit of info here suggesting that Carol is Bayer Sager and the 'D-Men / Fifth Estate' connection... https://www.45cat.com/record/k13568 Edited April 21, 2018 by Soul-Slider
