Thread promted by the resurgent post “Celebs who are OR Have been into Northern Soul”

Perhaps done before...but how about Film/TV stars that also became NS related artists without knowing!

Just two to start...

Further to reply above, Leslie Uggams was brilliant in Deadpool:

She was brilliant also as Kizzy in Roots - as were so many great actors in that series.

Speaking of which - Ben Vereen:

Lada Edmund Jr. was a featured dancer on the tv show "Hullabaloo" before cutting "The Larue".

I think she also appeared in a movie with Jon Voight, and I seem to remember hearing she was in an episode of Banacek.

Excuse me, I'm not a "Northern Soul" connaiseur, but I think in some soul artists who have been also TV and / or Film and / or Theater actors:

- Melba Moore

- Lou Rawls

- Carl Anderson

- Phyllis Hyman

- Isaac Hayes

to name a few who I think have one or more "cult" tracks in the N.S. scene.

George Kirby "What can I do"...was  a US comedian , known for his TV appearances.

wasn't Lester Tipton better known for dancing on tv show (winning a car with his sister in a national competition)......

I've heard Lester was known for dancing in local clubs and on tv (not sure about the car part of the story though).

Major Lance got his break as a featured dancer on Jim Lounsbury's "Time For Teens" and then got a deal with Mercury Records.

I think the Major was well aware of the Northern Soul scene though.

I don't knows if that counts or not. Spanish / american singer / guitar player Charo who recorded solo and with The Salsoul Orchestra on Salsoul Records and Kaytronics was also a prolific actress in the TV series field.

Excellent record. Got the LP somewhere. From sleevenotes on back he was an actor in a US daytime soap, or something and the record was a spin off from that.

Brill sound Joey, never gets  played anywhere these days. Hope you're ok Regards Fred.

Thanks very much for such kind words Fred. Yeah, massive back when northern soul was northern soul! Never heard it played for donkeys years. Probably not "soulful" enough, nor by an acceptable artist with suitably soulful credentials. Nor rare enough? Or maybe all three? If it was changing hands for a grand and up, maybe then! Then again, could any of us dance to this the way we use to? Ha! Hip and knee replacement ops spring to mind!

Keep well,

Kindest regards,

Joey.

Interesting credits on the label, Wonder, Moy, Cosby. So the three are Stevie Wonder, Sylvia Moy and would it be Bill Cosby?; always wondered or is it just a coincidence. I have considered playing it at the Central but it's a difficult one to dance to. Regards Fred.

No...Henry Cosby, writer/producer who produced a lot of Stevie's tracks.
