George M Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) Please email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve. thanks, George (alphabetical by label) Johnny Ross “Big Bruce / Part II” (Bak) VG++ £120Breakbeat-led funk with heavy reverb sound FX and a really attractive label design. (Don’t be fooled when googling for this: it’s all about Part II and the other, common pressing is a weak version.)Big Bruce Part II Beverly & Duane “Love / You Belong To Me” (Brown Bomber) VG £50Soulful midtempo 70s, with uptempo flip. (Two biro stars on “Love” label. That side plays well apart from two pops near the start and a few lighter tics towards the end. “You Belong” plays great. Faint lift NAP)LoveYou Belong To MeJeffrey Rolle “Reality of Love” (Candy Store Strawberry Soul) VG++ £400Obscure and virtually unknown. Dark, funky, rolling, atmospheric - and distributed to no one, it seems, judging by the lack of copies out there. Upfront DJs take note!Reality Of Love Deep Heat “Do It Again / She’s A Junkie (Who’s The Blame)” (Cu-Wu) VG++ £500One of the greatest soulful funk tracks of the 70s – they have such a beautiful feel going here. Solid funk flip. (Very, very faint ringwear)Do It AgainShe's A Junkie Shabadoo “Do It (One More Time) / Instrumental Version” (Dore) strong VG++ £70Lush disco with a great vibe, in two versions (I think the mix on the B side is the one).Do ItDo It - Instrumental Lucy Stone “Giving Love Instead Of Gold” (Fire Mountain) VG++ £900Top 10 modern soul – so lush, so current-sounding.Giving Love Instead Of Gold Nu-Cleus “It’s Real Love / Needing A Woman” (Ffull Strength) VG++ £500Killer modern/disco for the club, with a really original sound. Stepper flip. It's Real LoveNeeding A Woman The Myxx “Don’t Ever Leave / Mixed Up” (Mark Custom) M- £650Early ‘80s soul at its finest – this thing is fantastic. The spacey ballad on the flip is also good, and gets into stepping territory as it goes on.Don't Ever LeaveMixed Up Chocolate Syrup “Who You Tryin To Fool Girl” (MTVH) VG++ £20Strong 70s ballad. (Slightly off centre but sounds fine to me. The lame funk flip is more off, but I can’t see anyone wanting to listen to it and I also think it’s probably a general pressing problem with this record)Who You Tryin To Fool GirlJay Baldwin “So Glad I Met You / Son Of Mine” (Ronina) VG £40Obscure 70s sweet soul with midtempo soul-funk flip.So Glad I Met YouSon Of Mine Michael Bell “Can’t Make It Without You” (Saru) strong VG/VG+ £50Lesser-seen title from the kings of Cleveland, who deliver the usual quality of early ‘70s funky soul we’ve come to expect. (Two small label tears, still looks ok)Can't Make It Without You Gloria Taylor “How Can You Say It / Love Is A Hurtin’ Thing” (Selector Sound) VG+/VG £175Two of her finest, personally I prefer “How Can” but they’re both phenomenal. How Can You Say ItLove Is A Hurtin Thing Freddie Lowe “Decisions” (Sirocco) VG £225Strong 70s soul, featuring a shortened version and a longer mix on the other side. (A little intro noise that soon clears up & very slight warp NAP)DecisionsDecisions - Long Aggression “Tag” (SRI) VG-/G- £25Underground disco out of DC. (Small hole, plays at 33rpm / “Radio” side plays strong, “Disco” side has intro clicks that clear up after a while / slight warp NAP)TagTag - DiscoThe Page Three “Wait! One Minute Baby / The Love We Had” (Tenacious) VG+ £175Two dramatic 70s ballads, both of which are fantastic.Wait! One Minute BabyThe Love We Had The Black Truth Band “Butter Nut / Part II” (The Black Truth) VG++ £1000One of the greats – on a par with Kool & the Gang at their best, and with a massive break. Still smashes hard, and can fit well into modern/disco sets. (Slight warp NAP)Butter Nut - Part II Monica Higgins “It’s The Real Thing” (United Artists) demo - strong VG++ £65Mono / stereo demo of this fine 70s soul spin. (Clean copy in sharp company sleeve)It's The Real Thing Edited February 21, 2018 by George M
