Tom C Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Hi I have a mini-collection of great soul 45s recorded at FAME studios and want to keep it growing. 45s issued on the FAME label (James Barnett, Art Freeman etc) are obvious so II'd love to get suggestions where the recording ended up on another label (Eula Cooper/Note, Bill Brandon/Tower). Doesn't have to be Northern but please don't suggest "Torn between two lovers"
The Yank Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Here's a few to get started- all of them much better than "Torn Between Two Lovers" Etta James- "Tell Mama", "I'd Rather Go Blind", "Security", "Almost Persuaded" Clarence Carter- "Slip Away", "Too Weak To Fight" etc. - I'm sure there's more Aretha Franklin- "I Never Loved A Man", "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" Wilson Pickett- "Land Of 1000 Dances", "Mustang Sally", "Funky Broadway", "Don't Knock My Love"

Roburt Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 TWO IN THE MORNING by SPOONER'S CROWD always does it for me. BUT REALLY any of their 60's / 70's southern soul or country soul outings as just about everyone of them is good to great.

Mr Fred Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 (edited) The Torch Classic:- James barnett- Keep on Talking. One of my all time fav's , and yes we did a lot if talking at the Torch. Regards Fred. Edited February 13, 2018 by Mr Fred
Enricoacm1899 Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 (edited) There are some of Bettye Swann outings on Atlantic that come to mind. They came out after her only record on Fame label ("I'm just living a lie") and they also were recorded at the Fame studios. They're "Victim of a foolish heart", "Today I started loving you again"and "Till I get it right" and they're all worth looking for in my opinion. Edited February 13, 2018 by EnricoACM1899

Apologies, if I'd have read the beginning of this thread properly I would not have posted James Barnett as its mentioned at the beginning. I'd just like to say again an absolutely brilliant recording. All the best Fred.
