Guest woolie mark Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 I was flicking through some youtube videos and came across a clip of a recent event where somebody was playing Prince Phillip Mitchell's "I'm so happy" in the modern soul room. Why would anybody want to play this in a modern soul room? Surely the whole point of having a second modern soul room is to have a place to try new things out? Anyway, thought it might be fun to put up lesser known stuff which you would love to hear if you stumbled into a modern soul room at 3.00 am. Things a bit kind of "left-field" so to speak.
Richard Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Bit over a year old but I really like the Alright track off this albumhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Heart-Soul-S-Jamont-Flagg/dp/B073TDT1Q6/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_1

Guest woolie mark Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Found this in the back of an old box of 7", brings back memories!
Guest woolie mark Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 This was in the same box.....nice vocals
Steveh73 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 A nice, imaginative selection of tunes - not an overplayed 'modern oldie' in sight!!!

Picked up numerous UK 7" copies of this for a few pence each back in 1992. Seemed not too many folk wanted copies back then. Probably still got some spares up in the loft even today.

Guest woolie mark Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) This is a bit wierd, the bloke singing on this went to one of my old secondary schools in Cambridge. https://www.juno.co.uk/search/?q[label][]=soulstice&hide_forthcoming=0 Edited January 13, 2018 by woolie mark
Maxwell Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Not been out and about recently, can anyone tell me of the venues that play stuff like this?

Blackpool Mecca? Probably best to ask some proper modern DJs who are on here - user names Mark R and Mr Fish have been posting up some really good stuff recently.
Guest woolie mark Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 This is out on vinyl tomorrow. I think that it's an eighties recording previously CD only release from 2001?
Guest woolie mark Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Found this on Ray Dahrouge's youtube channel - unreleased (partial) recording from a damaged tape
Guest woolie mark Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I'm surprised this one never took off. I remember Sam and Arthur playing this in early eighties, must have been as a new release.

Geeselad Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 wouldn't be truly leftfield if you all like everything on this thread, so here's a bit of marmite, but I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z42IQ64mcg

Soulsides Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Cool thread.. theres some very nice tracks been posted. Some modern stuff here I'd be more than happy to stumble across at 3am !
Pilgrimsoul Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 That's just a few newish releases that's been getting plays.
Guest woolie mark Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 This isn't really my cup of tea and it's not my record, it's from RobinofSherwood's (who's that?) youtube channel. It's really got something about it though. The brass arrangement is great. Possibly from Connecticut in 1979. I reckon it's a Mexican wedding band or something like that? It's easy to get hold of, so I thought I would post it up as somebody might really love it.
Guest woolie mark Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 I don't believe that the singer on this is really from Warrington
Soulsides Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Really like this one from The Third Coast Kings released in 2010
