Roburt Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 John (the writer of the Florida Soul book) has informed folk that Wayne Cochran has passed away. John did a chapter on Wayne in his book. Wayne was a pastor at a Ft Lauderdale church.
Soul-slider Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Yeah, he sure could dance! I only just (last week) purchased his album on Chess from 1967. 'I'm In Trouble' one of my fave blue eyed Soul tracks. RIP big fella.
Hooker1951 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Great Artist, Larger than Life character, who was a real soul man, Singer and Dancer His live acts were Legendary, R I P, Wayne ML
Roburt Posted November 25, 2017 Author Posted November 25, 2017 (edited) He toured all over & was famous for his high energy stage act ... at one venue, he'd throw a chair through a window ... at another, jump up on the bar (sending glasses / bottles flying) & sing from up there ... Zoomsoulblue Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Never heard of this guy - but loads of different soul covers on you tube - legend RIP 1
Mal C Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Love his ‘Chopper 70’ track... big favourite RIP Wayne Cochran
Roburt Posted November 29, 2017 Author Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) He was very well know back in the 60's / 70's and played gigs right across the States ... He became close friends with the likes of Elvis and Otis Redding. His high energy show was so good that he was booked as the act to appear on opening night at the famous Sugar Shack Club in Boston (an R&B venue that catered for both blacks & whites from 67 thru to the mid 70's). It was said (many times) that his dynamic vocal style was never fully captured on any of his studio recordings, if true it was a crying shame. Edited November 29, 2017 by Roburt
