Mickey Finn Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Keith "The Key Man" Edwards is an unlikely entry here at the best of times, but that would be to overlook Xaviera Gold's contribution: 1

Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 There's another girl group with the name starting with "X": Xquisite, but the little I have hear is, IMHO, the kind of "neo soul" / "Rn'B" without feeling...
Mickey Finn Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Backtracking a bit before things begin to wrap up - The Ridgeways, as featured on Gene Dunlap's wonderful debut LP:
Mickey Finn Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 The Ritchie Family began as a studio concept led by Richie Rome in Philly, with the Sigma Sweethearts doing vocal duties. Somehow Jacques Morali took over and took them down the same eurodisco path as Village People, but as that dried up the Ritchie Family did an album with Jacques Fred Petrus' team, and followed that up with an album produced by Gavin Christopher, covering much more soulful territory:
Mickey Finn Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 More Norman Whitfield action, with Stargard, featuring Rochelle Runnells: 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Jackie Ross, with the Southside Movement:
Kenb Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 Yipeeee...Yes we're are opening the "Y's I missed them when it was “H”. 2

Guest Gogs Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I've tried to go with the letter for the surname (sometimes not to successfully) and i've failed again but i don't think that this has been mentioned yet
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I could say the same with this artist - and her style is often way too syrupy MOR for me but she can certainly do it: Yolanda Adams
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Starleana Young, ex-Slave and Aurra (later Deja before going solo): 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Young and Company, featuring Jacqueline Thomas:
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 This was one of last year's stronger new releases - Michon Young:
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Backtracking a bit to mop up some missing Ws - and with the cream of the NY boogie wrecking crew, Michelle Wallace:
Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 A little tribute to Yvette Benton (she appears on the credits as "Yvette" and also as "Evette"), one of the three Sweethearts Of Sigma, jointly with Carla Benson and Barbara Ingram the most omnipresent soul session vocalists who appears on hundreds of albums and singles from early 70's to the late 80's by a lot of different artists who recorded at Sigma Sound or other studios (from Billy Paul and the rest of "obvious" P.I.R. artists to Cat Stevens, passing trough Stanley Turrentine or Elthon John) and have some stuff published under their name (a Salsoul album and some 7" and 12"). Here's a TV program from the late 80's with some nice musical fragments:
Kenb Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 It’Z...time for the “Z’s”. Thanks to all the contributors and those that just dropped by to read/listen. It’s the endZ.

Actually he didn't say that but for some reason I have no choice but to write in this box so that means I can say Kenb said anything I want, such as - hey, this is way too much fun, let's now work our way back to A letter by letter to make sure we didn't miss any! Edited January 17, 2018 by Mickey Finn
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Sorry Ken, for whatever reason my reply box was jammed and I had to post something to get things moving again. Now, since you brought us so rapidly to Z, what about mid 90s Motown act Zhane: 1
Tomangoes Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Zertainly... Zit back and turn this up and enjoy a great record from back in the day... Ed 1 1

Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Zulema again, this time as a member of Zalmac on The Sound of Brooklyn Records:
Guest Shufflin Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 apparently there is no northern soul female artist for Z but as others have posted we have a modern soul lady soulin' it - this is my fav by her, nice dancer
Soulsides Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 If we're going over the W's again i'll add this one. Also one for the Z's. 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Ken has been a relentless taskmaster - I mean it was only Monday when we started with A so it's just as well he's been relaxed about catching up. And since W does seem to be still busy, here's Jody Watley: 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 And on to the northern one in the process - well recovered! From around the same time, another W, Dorothy Williams:
Guest Gogs Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 ok, now i'm really cheating. I can't come up with a "Z" but this is on the Zodiac label
