Guest Soulatthedale Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Brilliant LP, every track just so good.
Guest Soulatthedale Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 1968 masterpiece, criminally ignored by the American record buying public, but thankfully included in the 1993 CD, The Deepest Soul. 2018, living on the street, murdered in cold blood. R I P.

Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) Here's my "W" contribution from one of my favorite 70's fusion albums, Dexter Wansel' "Life On Mars"; on this track here's Terri Wells as featured female vocalist (she was previously on the vocal group City Limits and after as a solo act): Edited January 12, 2018 by josep manuel concernau robles
Mickey Finn Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 A great album from 2004 by Penny Wells: 1 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Vince Montana magic, with Carol Williams:
Kenb Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 let's not leave the "W's" without someone posting one from Kim,please.
Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Another "W", the enormous Deniece Williams and my favorite track produced by Thom Bell with the strings section, particualry the cello, so mellow:

Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 One of the best female vocalists of the last 30 years, and still to be featured here - Lalah Hathaway:
Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 And why not the song's author as well - Brenda Russell:
Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Mavis Staples or her family never did a version of "It's something" as far as I know, but this Curtis Mayfield penned and produced song from a very good comedy film soundtrack does her/them justice: 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Taka Boom could certainly belt it out, and did her fair share of disco and eighties electro-thumpers, but her stint in the Undisputed Truth gave us this: 1
Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 And rewinding all the way back to B for this by someone who mostly gave us eurodisco but took time out for one album produced by Michael Lovesmith to give us this very Mtume & Lucas sounding classic - Pattie Brooks:

I remember havin heard (in Spotify...?) a duet with she and John Whitehead little before he was killed. If you come to "H" or "L" letters, I can't wait to return to "L" letter for express my LOVE and ADMIRATION to one of IMHO, best vocalists of the last 30 - 40 - 50 years: CARMEN LUNDY and my favorite track from her CD "Devil Moon" (JVC, 1995). Everyday was radio air played on Spanish "Área Reservada" on Radio Nacional de España, Radio 3, along a entire year. There's an incredible and mellow trumpet riff by Randy Brecker!!: Edited January 14, 2018 by josep manuel concernau robles

I remember hearing that album being featured on BBC Radio 1's soul show of the time, of all places! She's still going strong and releasing high quality albums.

She's still going strong and releasing high quality albums. Despite the fact the title of this song is "You're not in love", I was immediately IN LOVE when I heard it on the spanish radio program mentioned and little after I come to the music store near to my job and purchased the two consecutive CD's they have: "Selfportrait" and "Devil Moon". Never found nothing more by Carmen Lundy. Two years after this spanish radio program did a live interview with her for her Granada University Concert (I lives in Tarragona, at more than 1000 Km!). Talkin' about "new female vocalists" she is IMHO the best jointly with Maysa Leak, Erika Baddu and Jaguar Wright (I was searching Jaguar Wright's "Nothing" from the Larry Gold's "Don Cello & Friends" fantastic CD for post it in the "W" letter but is not available on Youtube!)
Mickey Finn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Soul Brother Records in London are big supporters of Carmen Lundy. She has visited the store for record signings in the past. They have some goodies available: https://soulbrother.com/?s=carmen+lundy&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&post_type=product

Mickey Finn Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Dee Dee's version might be more famous, but Dionne's version comes off her wonderful Jerry Ragovoy produced 1974 LP "Then came you": 2
Mickey Finn Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 And this has to be one of the most amazing discoveries of recent years - Dee Dee Warwick going for it and then some:
Mickey Finn Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Unlimited Touch appeared earlier, but I'm using this for Audrey Wheeler:
Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I can't find my favorite track by Jaguar Wright, "Nothing", so I post the "second favorite", the strong "So High": https://youtu.be/TVSHrMEITyE
Kenb Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 eXacerbating not being able to think of an "X" -but we should open "X" up now. I have consulted the video referee and he says “eX” is permissible. Originally a girl group called the Masterettes, but Herb Rooney replaced Penny Carter when she left- So technically a mixed group (at least after 1963). 1
