You know what its like: late at night after a few drinks too many and probably a row with your partner. You reach for your favourite sad record to wallow in and play very loud.

Maybe a bit of Walter Jackson or Luther Ingram or BB Kings the Thrill is gone if its really bad. Just recently been hammering William Bells LP this is where I live. But for the depths of despair I go for something by Little Anthony like hurt so bad.

Of course it doesnt make you feel any better for very long

Whats your go to sad song?

I love deep soul, which to me is the style you're on about; sad stories told with feeling in song, many times with a great soulful lead vocal.

I'd pick some already mentioned; Soul Children, Randy Brown, Luther Ingram ... my faves also include Sam Dees, Tommy Tate, Lorraine Ellison, Knight Bros & many more.

SCHOOL OF LIFE by either Tommy Tate or Corey Blake is a fine example ....

Dont think the vocals are expressing sadness cos i dont think it is a lost love but so so soulful......

Flip it and it gets a LOT deeper ... ready made for a lonely evening at home with a nice bottle of scotch...

:g:  I would have played this as a youngster when I was sad having been blown out by my sweetheart, as at the time I only had a few records in the collection. :shhh:
