Guest stewartC Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Why oh Why do promoters clash!!! is it not hard enough to put on a good gig and have people come and really enjoy themselves time after time without clashing with another in the area or as in this weekend in the same village of Skegness. Seems a shame to me
Tomangoes Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Unless it's pure coincidence.... Its one-upmanship and petty. Unlikely to change though since its always been this way. If it was only about money, they would surely work together, like a Cartel, but it's more about out doing each other I suspect. Lorraine Silver was great last night though! And I'm sure some super rare vinyl got spun ' down the road' Ed

It happens everywhere though, purely selfish on the part of most and not a care for the bigger picture. 1
Frankie Crocker Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Too many Wannabe DJ's with hot boxes wanting to put on an event for their mates to spin at... Who is this Winstanley anyway? Really, promoters do not even need to meet up - just look at the calendar and find a free weekend. There is no central planning system to apply to (thankfully) so promoters need to be aware of what's happening where if they are to start up a successful event. Event clashes should be avoided when planning a new event. 1
dean jj Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 In my promoting days I always tried to avoid clashes. I remember Jon Lucian being on in Manchester on the same night as Parkers: both events suffered a bit. There is one thing to remember....sadly there is only one weekend a week! dean
Popular Post Hooker1951 Posted September 23, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 23, 2017 When I was promoting on my own and together with Andy Mcabe we moved dates on many occasions to help out other promotions sad to say that favour was never ever returned in over 30 years of on and of promoting it boils down to sheer selfishness and being petty like spoiled schoolchildren they would stick venues on knowing that you had those events running on those dates for years sometimes within 5 or 10 miles of your event I've even had a couple of well respected promoters put an event300 metres from mine I have on many occasions when asked made necessary adjustments to help other promoters I will say again never has that favour been returned never even a phone call to explain why they they had to do it on that date, they lack the very first thing they are trying to promote SOUL God Bless ML 4
dean jj Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Some people, and I'm sad to say it, are just not very nice, even if they do like soul music. dean 1
Guest Spain pete Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Lots of soul less doh do's about , shame to say for some it's all about the money and not spreading the word , not nice 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
NEILO Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 It's completely out of control these days! Too many people pushing their own agenda & showing no respect or consideration for other venues or the punters! 2
Suinoz Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Them's that ain't got a bloody clue what there doing should leave it to them that does. Nuff said!!
Woodbutcher Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Guess the one good thing about this clash is that the majority of returnee , clown-outfit uniform wearing , picnic-packing crowd will be at Butlins leaving Mr Riastrick's weekender untainted by their presence ... 2

You are probably right especially if on the application forms for the non Butlins event specifically preclude the classification of attendee type from going. If one or two slip, the net and get into the non Butlins event, they will obviously told not to come back. Elitism rules ok! And Russ and Ian just get richer and richer because of it. The days when promoters did it for love or principle or seeking respect are either long gone or never existed, unless it's at the local pub or for charity.. Ed
